I'll share a story from our ongoing house build. It might help to share the frustrations. Just got back from there at 8:30 pm 😄

Hi Santa Claus in Dingalan - Since you still owe them money, I am sure that you will come to some type of agreement. Good luck and take care

We are building a house here in Lucena City, and the tile job was not good. There were so many drummy tiles (hollow sounding underneath) as the dry pack mix was not right. A new tile crew said there was not enough water, and lack of laying "grout" as the bottom layer of the dry pack. So we pulled out the 128 tiles in our house and hired the new crew. After the first day the new install was nice and solid. The only problem: They did not properly follow the arrows on the underside of the tiles, to face all the arrows towards one direction. My wife noticed right away and asked the boss if he followed the arrows. The boss said that he did follow the arrows. We looked again and realized that he had faced the arrows towards each other. Of course that could only be done on every other tile, so they were set in pairs. But then we saw some others were turned at right angles, both left and right, here and there, so we wondered what he had attempted...(?) SO MANY pairs were set with arrows facing each other that it seems to us that it couldn't be just luck, and perhaps he did want to make the arrows face each other on each pair... but how could he have then made the mistake of turning some at right angles? We surmise that there were two brains at work there and they were not on the same idea. I looked online to see if I had the wrong idea about the arrows, and i got good confirmation from credible sources... but when i hit the tile setting forums I was shock to see how many of these installers (who should know) ... were debating and postulating as if there is no standard. Arrows to show what direction they should be fed into the kiln at the factory? Arrows to show what direction will be best for level installation due to varying thickness of the tiles? Etc.... Well, it is no wonder ... They are tile setters and not brain surgeons... It seems that even a layman with good logic and who CARES ENOUGH, (like my wife) will know better than many tradesman. And that's not just here in the Philippines, of course....I worked in service and remodeling in the US enough to know that. With modern ability to research, I can figure out the best ways to do almost anything, and even figure out the methods and reasoning for what is APPROPRIATE here and for budget (and that word "appropriate" is key). Along with budget concerns comes the issue of what is available within reason. I was well aware that I don't know how things are done here, or the reasoning behind much of it, and I'd made up my mind that I would not attempt to get involved except to ensure that the basic structure was done properly within code. So, my wife and I have adjusted our thinking to accept the pattern layout, as we don't want to mess with the nice solid job done. I can barely even find a few slightly different sounding spots in the whole house, and no "drummy" tiles..no hollow-sounding spot anywhere. Part of that acceptance is the tradeoff we made to NOT have to be there on site every day to supervise. So we've invested another 22k for tiles + 20k install labor. We made our foreman do the tearout of the tiles, as it was his subcontractor who made the mistake. At least it is now SOLID, and that's what matters most to both of us). ~~~~~ Update: As that was written yesterday with a few edge tiles to go and we had not seen the grouting yet.... Luckily we had to take over 10 more tiles and arrived early, as they were using the white grout we had for our white countertops, and not the grey we had for the flooring. They had the whole master bedroom grouted and my wife told them to clean it out and do it with the proper grey grout. We can't guess how they could have made the mistake to choose white over grey as the tiles are all grey marble style. Well, we went over this evening and stayed until it was all done, and it looks nice. Hang in there Santa Claus!!

Good story, thanks for sharing. I know some tile designs have several ways they can be layed according to the arrows. Depending on what direction you want. People who lay tile for a living definitely should know. Just like welders should know they need to cover the floor before welding. Definitely frustrating dealing with people with no common sense 😒

I’ve been a tiler for 40 years. The only way to fix them is pull them out and replace them

No kidding, that's what I have been saying all along. Also the tiles are 4 or 5 years old. Probably no longer available, or if they are, they won't match due to discoloration or different batch. They would have to retile the entire house.
