Episode 3: Find Your Sea Story Documentary
In the third episode, we hear the story of the fortuitous discovery of an old photograph that unveiled a maritime tale spanning generations. This episode features Dr. Akeia de Barros Gomes, the William E. Cook Vice President of the American Institute for Maritime Studies and the Director of the Frank C. Munson Institute of American Maritime History. It follows her career, uncovering her deep-rooted connection to the sea. During her time at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, Akeia discovered a 1921 photograph of her great-grandfather, who was a boat steerer on a whaleboat. This photograph opened a door into the past for Akeia and her family, most of whom knew nothing of her great-grandfather's history.
