Thanks for showing a lot of the menus. I didn't get the courage to try sushi the first two trips to Japan but maybe I'll try it in the states. It would be rude to not finish something at a restaurant and if I like US grocery store sushi Japan can't be any worse.
@cakeswithfaces
3 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean about not wanting to seem rude if you order something you don't like! If you go again, convenience store sushi might be a good place to start - then you can try it at your hotel with no one watching! :-) Sushi in Japan is a lot simpler than sushi in the US, with fewer fillings and extra sauces, toppings, etc. Enjoy!!

I've always wondered why quite a few English people don't seem to like eating seafood, considering England is an island country just like Japan.
@cakeswithfaces
5 жыл бұрын
We're famous for fish and chips here in England! :-) There's not such a variety of seafood as in Japan though, and it's not always as fresh. I think a lot of people don't like the thought of raw fish, because traditionally fish is always cooked here. And quite a few people are vegetarian/vegan too.

This had me urgently searching for places for Sushi - previously the only place that I was able to go to was in cardiff - and it was truly fantastic but it is well over an hour away and the last time I went I ended up spending well over £100 for just two of us !. (I also got a speeding fine on the way home :( ) But !! I discovered that my local waitrose has been doing made-to-order sushi platters for 2 whole years now - How did I not know this already ? It is the only waitrose in wales that has the service though :( There is also a wagamama in hereford, which is only about half an hour from me - though they seem to be a curry & raman place without sushi. So all In all - today's video was a great success :)

It used to be the same where I live - that's why I learned to make my own sushi at home! You can also have as much as you want without a huge bill :-) (Always feel like I have to hold back at restaurants because it's so expensive!) Everything's delicious at Wagamama, really fresh - I like their yasai itame (noodles in coconut milk broth).

um,... actually,... if you don't know the chef the first thing to order is tamago maki,... it looks simple but it's extremely easy to screw up so you'll get a good idea of the chef's strengths and weakness,... (and,... errr, no,... I don't know why kappa like cucumber! (^_^) )

I miss Kappa maki. I can eat 100 of them for sure. Sushi anywhere else is not quite as good as it is in Japan, and it must be the rice?

I think the standard of food in all types of restaurants is higher in Japan, because from what I've heard, people work hard and care about doing a good job! The ingredients are really fresh too.

Nice content, as usual. Quick question if you can guide me on this... whenever you order niguiri sushi in Tokyo (conveyor belt or not) does it come with wasabi already? Thanks!
@cakeswithfaces
5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't! At some places you get the option (eg on the touchscreen you can select with or without wasabi), and they have the wasabi on the table for you to add if you want to. If you didn't want it, an easy way to communicate that would be to say "wasabi" (it's the same in Japanese!) and make a cross with your arms which is a symbol for no!
