It has two 16-645E3A, producing 3,300 horsepower each for a total of 6,600 horsepower. This required that a special frame be built, making it about the longest locomotive ever at 98 ft 5 in. Of course today we can achive the same amount of power with only one prime mover and less lenght, but still the DD40AX was a massive beauty.

I got to see these engines operating in the mid 70s pulling coal trains down from Wyoming. There's one also on static display in Frisco, Texas. There's also a Big Boy there, too.

Nice trinity of head lights and quad of rear lights. Would lateral visibility lights on the caboose make for enhanced public safety? The reflective mustard-colored paint job down the length of the train effectively presents itself for the recognition of pedestrians and automobile drivers.

Not often at all. I *believe* this was the first time it's been in the area. I'm not sure when (if ever) it will be through here again.

It's not a regular train by any means. This was a "special" so I'm not sure when/if it will ever return to the cities again. At least I can't say for sure...
