Being a CrossFit games athlete doesn’t define who you are, and even though it’s really important to have this goal, in the end, wether you make it or not doesn’t make you a better person! Its the journey and the hard work you put in every day to become better, that really defines a person. The way you get through these setbacks and difficult times, is really where you learn the most I guess, and that’s, in my opinion, how you will be able to be even more proud of yourself!

A small word of encouragement : I'm 60 and started crossfit 1,5 years ago. (did sports my whole life). After a half year practicing and even competing, I had a severe motorcycle accident. I had a double fracture of the pelvic, which is a BIG issue in my age. Today I'm competing again,... I didn't give up. I even grew stronger! Stay courageous! Stay focused! You'll get back on track!! Greetings from Germany. Yves 💪😊

I'm fairly new to Crossfit and you are the first games athlete I saw doing a quarterfinal wod in person, when you visited our box in Pfäffikon. That's why I have a special place in my heart for you and it hurt seeing your season end. But looking forward to seeing you compete again after a speedy recovery.

Dear Rebecka, don’t give up. I had an ACL surgery 10 years ago (the hamstring one). Afterwards I never felt right again. Always unstable, occasionally popping in-and-out. People told me that it was just going to be like that. It was only after discovering CrossFit two years ago that I started training hard again. Sadly, the inevitable happened and I fell of a box at some point. Only then I got imaging done (MRI, CT, RX), which showed that my old surgery probably never got the job done. On top of that, I had a decade of additional cartilage damage. A new doctor advised me to get a new surgery done immediately, the quadriceps one. It has been a pretty challenging recovery, but a steady one. I feel more stable and secure than I have the past decade. Physical strength will return, as long as you keep your mental strength. You can do it.

Thank you for taking a moment to share. I wish more athletes would share the down moments and not just the up moments. For that is more like real life for all of us - ups and downs. I hope you have a speedy recovery, but focus on one day at a time. That is all any of us got. Hang in there.

I was there, that moment broke my heart, I didn't even look at the other athletes anymore, I just thought, she's going to get up and everything will be fine and when you got up I thought, she's still going to win the heat , she's the best of all, but you were really bad and when you fell in the BJ I fell too.

I was in my early 20's, walking with a cane after a back injury. I was told that eventually I'd be in a wheelchair even if I got the surgery done (which turns out is the worst option). My then wife, who was two weeks pregnant with our second child, left me and took our son with her to her home state. I was depressed, unable to work and gained an excessive amount of weight, almost reaching 300 pounds which I didn't hold well since I'm just a little over 5'7". It took me a few years to get myself healthy in all aspects of life, while still seeing my kids regularly. I'm 39 now and started a routine so I can do next year's MURPH CHALLENGE. This injury is a slowdown, and I can relate to the feelings you're having right now but they will hopefully change as you progress to recuperating. My support and well wishes on your upcoming journey and I look forward to seeing you back at it.

I’m so sorry about your injury! If it helps … I had my 2nd ACL surgery. My first was a hamstring graft and this one was patellar tendon graft, which I was assured is the gold standard for a 2nd surgery. It did not require a double surgery for me, so maybe it will not for you either. Every case is different of course. I’m sure you will come back stronger than ever. Wishing you an appropriately timed recovery and lots of strength during the process. You will be back!

Hi, I am no crossfitter at all, but I am always so amazed what a human body is able to do. Thats why I love watching weightlifting and crossfit from time to time. Thats how I found your IG Page. And I like your spirit. I am dealing for myself with a lot of shit from previous injuries. It sucks as hell. You're not alone and I am glad you're able to speak about it. Maybe you're able to recover without surgery at all? I read some studies about ACL tears. They compared people with surgery and without surgery 1year after the injury and there wasn't a sgnificant difference. But I don't remember if the clients were couch potatoes or athlets😅 What ever it is, I hope you're able to come back and I wish you a lot of energy to fight the negative thoughts!

Jag känner igen mig i allt du säger, I had a patellar tendon tear and a groin tear from playing soccer my whole life that kept getting re-injured and I finally had to quit after college. And then I dealt with repetitive back injuries that took me the better part of 3 years to rehab and recover from. It’s not just heartbreaking. It is psychologically devastating. The psychological ruins that long injuries can put you in are just… crushing. I am SO sorry you’re dealing with this. I know it doesn’t help much but at least you can still train core and upper body, if that’s a silver lining. I remember with my back injury, I basically couldn’t train anything except arms for the longest time. My whole identity felt in crisis. Anyway, I am sending you alllll the healing vibes so you get this recovery on the road. Each day gone is one day closer to being back out there 🩵

Hi Rebecka, i had the same rupture 14 years ago and i wasn't aware of the fact that they (doctors) can replace it with the semitendinosus tendon. So they followed the common way at that time to take a Part from the patellar tendon. It takes a longer time to recover, especially to bend the knee, doing scar-care and it feels that it's a longer way back into the sport. i had the direct comparison cause two of my friends had the same shit and they got the semitendinosus tendon operations. But in the end.. im totally fine with taking a part of the partellar tendon. This tendon is so fukcing strong and hard. Part of the recovery is that you get to be able to fully bend your knee cause this tendon is rly tough to stretch. Both friends got another rupture on their knees thanks to football (i'm from germany, so i'm speaking of the europe football :D) . I was able to do football, kickboxing, boxing an now crossfit. All doctors told me, that this tendon won't ever rupture again, the possibility tends to 0. Doing the drawer test, the ligament in the ruptured knee is stronger than on the not ruptured knee. There is only one long term shit with this operations. sitting on the knees will never feel the same so that i do sports with a bandage. But thats ok. If it was your first acl rupture i would tell you that the semitendinosus tendon is the best i guess, despite the fact that this ligament can rupture again. Crossfit is not football regarding the movements. think u rly had bad luck in this case. But now, you cannot choos this tendon. Just wanna clarify, that talking the partellar tendon is not such a worst case scenario as you maybe think. Taking other tendons from muscles in the legs may not be the beste idea. Maybe you can talkn about all that with your doctors . Just a hint =) Good recovery and best wishes!

Injuries are normal part of the sport. The hardest part now is that you dont know the diagnose and ur not certain on how and when will your recovery go and usually we create worst scenarios about the thing which is usually wrong but thats the way that our brain is processing it. When you do the correct diagnose and doctors/coaches plan the operation and recovery part your focus is gonna go on that, and verry soon your gonna feel powerfull and strong as you proven yourself for the years and overcome that one also! So heads up, stay strong and rest, you def need it now!
