Here are answers to some frequently asked questions: "How did you plug in your M32 to your computer if the computer & router are on the stage?" - The computer on stage is only running Ableton Live. The laptop in the tech booth runs Soundcaster and we ran a long ethernet cable to the stage to the wifi router. "just curious what is your other IEM setup? Your Sennheiser system?" - We use one Sennheiser wireless transmitter paired with two receiver packs. The musicians using these packs run mono mixes. We also use your Behringer HA8000 and Behringer P1 headphone amps.

IPhones that don’t have a lot of free storage space tend to crash before they are full when they start to compress data. If you record with an iPhone more free space than the actual recording is needed for some recording apps not to die on you. So iPhones with plenty of free space often work better. I don’t know if that helps but it might.

Last comment, I promise. And this should probably be directed to the Audiofusion engineers... putting the burden of the actual audio mix on the phone is the wrong way to do things. WiFI has more than enough bandwidth to send 20 or so custom mixes (maybe as high as 50 to 100). Move the mix to the source side. Let the performer's phones customize their own mix, seding the info back to the laptop. But move the actual audio mixing to the source side, so rather than broadcasting all source channels OTA and making each phone do a mix, th e phone s send mix info back to the source laptop, and the the source sends only the number of custom mixes OTA - which may actually be less than the raw source case. Now each phone need only "playback" their configured mix. Likely this will alleviate some glitch and latency issues. (Hmmm... think I may build this myself 🙂)

Hi Jake. After seeing this video I suggest to have someone that knows network tech to troubleshoot your wireless connection. I can assume it is the DHCP IP assignment. The DHCP expires after some time (as configured in the router). If that happen during worship, you get the timeout and the router reset the connection a reassign new IPs to your devices. You can try these: Assign a longer time to renew DHCP or assign static IP to the devices, either in the iPhone itself or by some kind of preference list in the router using the iPhone's MAC address.

Beyond the glitches (which is likely buggy SW), latency can be the non-starter. WiFi doesn't have to necessitate latency. A dedicated router is a must, but SW on both ends can be the long pole and make a system unusable for many performers. The source side is the easiest to fix. A more HW-centric solution is simple and fairly low-cost for the source side - something like an FPGA digitizer/mixer/broadcaster is simple and low cost with virtually ZERO latency. Any decent dedicated router would also contribute minimal latency. Leaving the phone SW as the major contributor of latency. I would like to see numerical data with the current system to see where things can be improved. I would also be willing to do the TX side FPGA development for a system that is lower latency and more usable - I just need the details on the protocol used.

I feel that In-Ear technology is really behind compared to other products in the audio field. So I love the idea of this, but I sense users who are trying out Audio Fusion (including my team) are crossing their fingers hoping that everything will work. I’m a fan of knowing that all my gear will work every time. If there is a failure, it is outside the normal operation use or setup. I’ve been trying to get a better understanding of audio networking. When I connect my mix rack to our digital console it works every time. I’m not sure why but it does. In my desire to learn why this works every time I have come across some information in my Level 3 Certification for Dante. This content is a bit technical, but explains why Dante does not operate over WiFi currently. I assume this also applies for audio on the Audio Fusion platform. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uqd8yJegiJObpJw

Nice, objective review. I thought I read they offer a free trial, so that would mean nothing to lose to try. For sure, this technology has the POTENTIAL to cut $$$$ in cost. As an electrical engineer, I suspect your "glitches" have zero to do with the router, but is almost always a problem in the software. As this application evolves, the SW will get better. Ideally, you could re-purpose an old Android phone with a streamlined version of Android/Linux and solve most of the glitch problems (i.e. a single purpose handheld device). But someone needs to develop that app.The ball is in Audiofusion's court to fix the bugs and include Android. If they don't, the technology will pass them by and they will likely eventually fail.

@Gaget01Stuff
5 жыл бұрын
@@POINTBLAKEE the only way it isn't publicly shown is that standard user interface implementations only show network names that the access points are broadcasting. When the access point is set to hidden, it's the client device that actually broadcasts messages continually saying "Is network X here?". This makes it extremely insecure - an attacker can immediately see networks you've previously connected to, and can easily pretend to be one. Also, password protection doesn't really matter now that WPA2 is broken. BTW, this is my field of expertise.

Well i like new tech but when it comes to real time audio monitoring, my solution would never be an IP based system. I can say that using a phone for in ear you will need a phone that has nothing running in the background. Every little thing that tries to find a "service" is causing problems. So the only advice i can gie for in ear and stage monitoring, never use IP based in ears. Just go and buy the normal in ears, the dedicated ones. And in even more cases there are problems with frequenties and disturbance on it. Now with the new upcoming 5G mobile phone transmitters, you can get more and more problems going wireless. A lot of people i know are switching back to wired microphones and normal on stage speakers. Yes it is a bit of a thing to set everything up but that is what soundengineers do. It's old fashion but it works, with software based monitoring, it's allways a question if it works. It is nice to see that some want to evolve sound and everyting with it, nut you need to keep in mind if it's an improvement. And that is were it goes wrong.

You did not get what I mean. At our church since we do not speak english but have a lot of foreigners, we have a person translating the whole sermon for them. Currently we are using wireless tourguide system where the person translating has small lav mic plugged into transmitter and foreigners get receivers with headphones at the entrance. This system is pretty expensive and has a lot of cons. You must always care for 30 receivers and 2 transmitters, keep track of them (somebody just walks out without realizing he still has receiver on him). Aaand jack plugs in them are just crap, I personally am replacing the faulty ones about two pieces a month. Plus you must always check whether or not are they set to proper channel. Sometimes we need translation to another language (RU or DE) too. I thought, it should be possible to connect translators mic to PC and push that stream to foreigners phones (via webpage or a simple app). I have done quiet a research about it, found something about VLC which is meant to be used over LAN, but without succes. And now I see that there is some software that makes streaming audio (and even multitrack) over wifi possible. I am curious how it is done and even more curious if there is some app that makes my idea working.

Do you think this system is any better than a cheap 2.4ghz IEM system? Almost any affordable mixer has an app to control monitor mixes. I have a few concerns with this product. First, it's price - $100 a person seems pretty steep. I own some very powerful software that's much cheaper. Most musicians I know show up with a mostly dead battery in their phone. Dropouts are unacceptable for most people. It's iOS only, many non-professional musicians use Android.

Jake. Are you using the router for anything else besides in ears? The reason I’m asking is because household/gaming routers have a lot features built in that you probably don’t need. If you need just an access point then I’d suggest a UniFi AP from Ubiquiti. It is exactly that. An access point. No firewall and no other features that you don’t need. I just deployed a UniFi system at my church and it is amazing. Each device does exactly what it needs to do and the system is built on a corporate level instead of a residential/household level. My church and other churches around me have used residential type routers with varying results for a long time and since installing the new network system all of the problems that we were having have gone away.

If you set it up in standalone mode you can use a simple app on your phone called “UniFi Network”. It uses the DHCP from whatever device it is connected to. I buy all my stuff from Amazon so that if I have a problem with it or it doesn’t work returns are easy. The best thing is to try it out and see if it works. The old Roland TD20 drum kit was 10-20ms difference between hitting the pad>signal> and to headphones and drummers were satisfied with the triggers.
