I have the same ETA movement in another watch from Steinhart and it is just a matter of using the watch. If the watch had been exposed to magnetism, it would have behaved in a totally different way, you would really notice. And watches needs to be broken in, oil, grease and gears needs to start working in harmony and broken in. Another thing which may affect a watch, is temperature changes, usually then it runs slower. But if an ETA 2824-2 runs + - 4 to 5 seconds fast per day is way within the norm as the Steinhart is not a Chronometer certified watch like for instance my Planet Ocean. There are three levels of certifications of the movements and the ETA 2824-2 is certified at level 1, which I don't recall what's called. But as long as it runs fast and not too slow, it doesn't indicate any issue with the main spring. And you should let a pro regulate it for you, but one thing is for sure, if accurate time is your goal, quarz is for you, as a cheap quarz watch from Timex runs around 0.1 second per week slow, whilst a mechanical not rated as a Chronometer certified watch, can run + - 5 to 10 seconds per day fast. Happy New Year and just enjoy your Steinhart.

Thank you for mentioning the tip what I wrote to you regarding letting the watch to it's full stop. Think that your watch has a 2824-2 ETA elaboré. In ETA ar3 4 grades. FOUR GRADES OF ETA 2824-2: Standard - adjusted in two positions; accuracy of +/-12 sec/day up to +/- 30 sec/day Elaborated - adjusted in three positions; accuracy of +/-7 sec/day up to +/- 20 sec/day Top - adjusted in five positions; accuracy of +/-4 sec/day up to +/- 15 sec/day Chronometer -4 +6 sec/ day -( less then 8% from the all swiss watches) Your watch is fine. Wear it with pleasure and forget about that seconds. It's just a 400 Dollars watch. So it's perfect like that. Wearing it will start to loose 2-3 seconds. That will happen in few months. So go ahead and enjoy it. Don't throw the money on watchmakers for nothing. Cheers.

@andreivasileneamtu470
6 жыл бұрын
Hey. Regarding your question. Stowa for their Flieger TO2 is using ETA 2824-2 chronometer grade. That mean that the timing tolerance is -4 / +6 per day. The watch is regulated and tested in more positions and probably will come with a COSC Certificate. The thing is Stowa served the German army in WW2 and have a nice history. The TO2 is a pilot watch and the OWM is a diver. The Steinhart OWM is using an elaborated grade. The prices are different too. Stowa is around 1200 Dollars and Steinhart is around 400 Dollars. I own a Nav B-Chrono 44 and I really like it. Now I want to buy from their premium line a Nav B-Uhr 44 premium automatik with an ETA 2892-A2 to engrave it with a gothic model or something like that :D. Anyway for those who will say that Steinhart is a new company they should search for more information because they left from Switzerland a long time ago so I consider their time pieces very nice, Swiss made 100% and a good deal too. Cheers :D

Ive got the ocean 1 GMT that runs now about 8 seconds a day fast since I got it in september. When I first received it the watch was about 3-4 seconds a day but has settled down to 8. If your really concerned take the watch to a watch maker and they will regulate the movement and get it pretty close. Also a quick sidenote. Avoid manually winding that movement (eta2824) as they dont like it and you risk breaking the teeth on the gears in the winding mechanism. If possible a few winds if its dead to get it started and wear the watch to wind the rest of the movement. Enjoy mate, they are fantastic watches
@derekhicks8250
6 жыл бұрын
Just wear it, they tend to settle in after a few months. Under 10 sec per day is good for an automatic watch. After 3 months or so if it is 20 or so fast or slow, either have it regulated or try it yourself. Super small movement of the lever, leave the back off, check after 24 hrs, if good lube the gasket, tighten up the back, good to go.

Just a few things. Your watch is running within specifications. Second, it will NOT run 15 seconds fast every day. It will vary depending on how active you are, what position it spends most of its time in, if you take it off at night etc...Some days it may run 3 seconds fast other days it may run 8 seconds fast...it will vary day to day. Third, try to limit hand winding it. You wear it daily so you basically should never hand wind it. The ETA 2824-2 can be damaged by hand winding to often. Also, there is an APP for your Smart phone called ToolWatch that you can download and check the accuracy of the watch. I check my watches about once a month.

REAL NICE INFO on a fine piece that doesn't have to cost alot! Heck I got rid of a $6,000 watch because I didn't want that much on wrist in public anymore! I can afford a rolex but it's just not sensible anymore...STEINHART on the other hand, definately a great high quality and sensible piece that isn't $30,000 like it's counterpart and definately not a cheap watch either; just affordable! Congratulations ... for a newby to timepieces, you picked an excellent watch for the money. If you want excellent accuracy a $50 Casio MDV106 quartz will be more accurate and if you want to never set the time/date or change the battery, get a solar powered atomic. I bought my first Steinhart a few months ago and put it on a Weishi timegrapher which shows that it is running better than my recently overhauled 31 year old Rolex. The timegrapher told me my Steinhart was running +3 sec/day, with Amplitude of 325 degrees, and no beat error. Those readings were in the dial up position and will likely vary depending on the position of the watch. You video was 2.5 years ago ... so what did you do? I would have recommended emailing Steinhart to ask their advice because they may have offered to adjust it for you under warranty...but as someone else mentioned...you have to compare the time to an atomic clock or put it on a timegrapher ... not compare it to a Seiko that might even be running slow.

I think your watch is running normally and there is probably nothing wrong with it. The "elabore" grade of the 2824-2 movement could probably be regulated by a watchmaker to run a bit tighter, but you are expecting quartz accuracy from a mechanical watch; this a naive expectation. Within +20 secs in 24 hours is very good. My Rolex and my hi-beat Grand Seiko are nicely better than +10 seconds fast, may be about +6 seconds in 24 hours. This is normal; enjoy it. I am presently awaiting delivery of my 39mm GMT Steinhart, and if it as good as yours I will be very pleased.

When a watch run fast 15 secs everyday, it mean it was an accurate watch. Some movement run 10 secs ahead day 1, but day 2 it run 20 secs ahead, mean it not an accurate watch. However U can send the watch to service centre to do fine tune. There’s a pulse meter to check how many beat per hour, this movement is about 24khz, mean 24000 beat per hour, when it run fast mean the beat might be 24100 ph, the officer can tune it back to close to 24khz. Then u probably get your watch back with 2-3 secs ahead per day. But over few years of wearing, it will finally run few secs behind, this is the limit of mechanical movement, when it run real slow, maybe 20 secs behind per day, then it’s time to send in for a full service.

H mate, Steinhart uses Selita and eta movements which are normally pretty stable. It totally is possible to regulate a watch, especially a standard 2824 to 3-8 secs. Careful with regulating it yourself, you got a warranty here and while you are in this period you shouldn’t open the watch yourself. Have you be in touch with Steinhart? They do have a good customer service and answer normally pretty fast and do give helpful advice. Mentioning a KZitem channel might help, too😉 Greetings, Konstantin

Also, please don't treat your ETA 2824-2 as if it were the same as manual-wind watch. Yes, you can manually wind these movements, but they are intended to be self-winding, and you can strip the internal gears if you manually wind it more than is absolutely necessary. If you put it on and it has run down, then give it a few gentle manual turns of the crown, just enough to get it running, then set the hands and let it wind itself after that.

We all started somewhere and there is an awful lot to learn and try and understand. I would say the the current timing is fine and might well settle down over the next few months. In my experience, I would rather it slightly fast than slow. These movements are not COSC regulated but in the hands of a good watchmaker, they can be regulated with 3-5 seconds. I would always suggest using a professional at first because you also have the added issue of pressure testing the watch as well plus, there is a plethora of tools needed to get started, and they aren't cheap. A watchmaker once told me that learning to service and or work on watches is like trying to learn to swim over the phone. Lastly, an expression I once heard was,"dial up speed up, crown down slow down". This refers to how you leave the watch at night and will obviously vary watch to watch but it's worth a try and maybe join a good forum and read and learn as you go.

BTW... what your talking about is not full blown "Regulating". Watchmakers have a device resembling a solid state oscilloscope that tells them the BPH (beats per hour). They simply let it run on that device for a moment, pop the backoff and on the ETA 2824-2 has a little "+ and -" mark and a little lever the watchmaker pushes to speed up or slow down the watch. Once it reads 28,800 BPH, its good!

Accuracy has always been important for a watch. If accuracy is your prime reason for owning a watch,get a quartz movement. If you’re a professional diver...get a tested dive watch. For most people having a COSC regulated watch is about as good as it gets for mechanical watches. Personally if my watch is out by a couple of minutes a week I am not worried. I have bought the watch for its aesthetics rather than accuracy.

Just get it regulated at a watchmaker... All the stuff you've tried is nonsense, a mechanical watch will run faster/slower depending on orientation and how well regulated it is, cheapish mechanicals are seldom well regulated from the factory - A experienced watchmaker will do that no problem... And accept that a automatic mechanical isnt as accurate as a quartz.. but it has soul... The steinhart is, for its pricepoint, extremely well built and a pretty watch! DON'T regulate yourself the watch! You can be successful but the chance to mess its precision is very big. I have tried to regulate myself and my watch ran worse, even trying for some days to get it better. A serious watchmaker/repairer certainly will do it with a Vibrograph/Precision machine specially designed for that. So if in the future you decide to regulate it don't do it yourself. I understand the confidence because I had it myself, but after messing up my watch I would never do it again.

If you want to learn more about watches though, this is a good way to do it. You can invest in a timegrapher for under $200 and get it pretty precise. I was able to get my Orient to within -2/+2 seconds per day and an ETA 2824-2 to +2 seconds per day just using an iPhone app. It's all about whether you want to learn through doing it or just pay someone else.

I received yesterday my Green 39mm Ocean one, and absolutely love it. It is running 7-10 since yesterday. I really don't mind it, for me that's the part of the beauty of mechanical watches, they tend to vary its precision with time, and ofter get better. Taking care and adjusting its time every few days might be a pleasant interaction between you and your watch. Otherwise a $10 Casio would do the trick if precision is a must, that's part of the fun!! But again, nothing is disabling you to later regulate it, I'm just saying that so you don't get this idea of the watch being inaccurate all over your mind, just enjoy it and know that this kind of behaviour is really ordinary of a mechanical watch. If a $100k Patek Philippe would run 15 sec. fast now I would be pissed hahahaha, but for a ETA Swiss workhorse it's more than normal. Cheers and wear your Steinhart in good health!

I see what you're saying David. I agree. Serge, you can't expect this watch to keep perfect time. With this movement, +5-10 seconds per day would be fine. That's the range I was shooting for when I adjusted my Squale 1521 and I just happened to get lucky that it's only about +2 seconds per day when I'm wearing it. As long as it's not running slow, I think you'll learn to be okay with it. When a watch is fast, you can stop it for a few seconds and get it back to the correct time. When it's slow, you have to stop it, set it ahead and wait for it to sync. It's much more annoying in my experience. I would suggest using an app that syncs with a NTP server. I use one called Time for iOS, that will be a more reliable way to check the accuracy of your watch.

Exactly, it can be really easy to adjust the precision, but I just don't feel comfortable doing it anymore, I'd be happy to pay a professional to do it. Just my personal opinion. If you like watchmaking there are some new movements like the Vostok ones, which are sold for a very affordable price, you can always buy one and practise, like taking it apart and assemble it again.

Unscrew the back, nothing to it (you need a ten dollar tool though, and a very small screwdriver) - there's a little + - dial with a little screw on top where you an simply turn it a few seconds fore and back. Screw the back on again, make sure the seal doesn't get damaged (nothing to it). You may have to do it a few times and always test a few days till you have it on the second... these watches can do + - 2 seconds or so a day. You'll lose guarantee of course but be assured you won't need that anyway Once you're satisfied, you may want to get some silicone grease that you can cautiously smear on top of the seal ring before you screw it shut again, to make absolutely sure it's as watertight as before. All the rest is bullshit (google eta 2824-2 and have a look at the inside of the watch before you start).

Welcome to the wonderful addiction! You should check out "warchartsci," "Theo and Harris," and "Federico talks watches" on KZitem. You'll learn a ton about watches from these three channels. There are others out there as well, but these three cover a great deal of information about watches and their history.

Its way better for them to run fast than slow, I wouldn’t touch it for 6 months then see what it’s running like, great hobby this but addictive and expensive 👍

Sell your Steinhart and buy a Seiko, Orient or Bernhardt. You can always regulate it with a hammer, just saying.

Your watch is running pretty average for a mechanical in this price range. I would just continue enjoying it, it's part of the charm of a mechanical (within reason of course). I'm sure you don't make it a habit of putting your watch on snow or ice, but it could cause condensation inside your watch. Mark from Long Island Watch made a great video about water resistance that includes this topic. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1od8246CamZylKw

Buy a quartz. Don't get mechanical, no point having a useless car engine on your wrist.
