Would you hold off on getting a hair transplant until this treatment is more available? I'm going to meet with a surgeon soon and I don't think I should go forward with it unless they will use this treatment.

I definitely would wait. Don't understand the ones who knows about it and recommand otherwise. It shows already really promising signs. If you could, at worst, have less scarring, and at best, new regrowth in the donor, why would you go ahead and not use Verteporfin while you could have benefit from it if you have waited a bit ?

Don’t you get it? You could go back transplant new hairs into your old donor area then regrow new hair in the new donor area. Duh 😂 relax all in good fun

is the injury of extraction hypothesized to be required in conjunction with verteporfin to enable the drug to have its regenerative effect? if not, what is to stop verteporfin from regenerating follicles on other parts of the scalp (e.g., the transplant recipient site).
@HairTransplantNetwork

Yes, it is required to block the scarring pathway and lead to hair regeneration.

The hair follicles on the top of the scalp are sensitive to dht. So it doesn’t really matter if you inject verteporfin on the top of the scalp cause those follicles are still gonna get fucked by dht

Those hairs are too sparse and thin to qualify it as a cure. Even with time I doubt they will improve past what we see now. Dr. Barghouthi needs to refine the method he's using and maybe even add something mixed with the Verteporfin to produce thicker and more abundant hair. What is has made is progress and now he needs to improve upon what he's accomplished. I can say he is at least doing something to cure hair loss. Most of these doctors do nothing even if they have ideas because they're afraid of being targeted by the FDA or having their reputations ruined if something goes wrong.

Hey what are the potential costs of a full on FUE with verteporfin with lets say 2000 grafts. Also wouldn’t this require 100’s of mg of verteporfin? How safe would that be considering 15mg was the standard. Dose for visudyne. I’d appreciate if you can ask these questions next time

I don’t think anybody knows for sure but this next update will be aligned with when the result from the pig study was extracted in the preview they gave in the Holman22 lecture (16 weeks). It could be at 16 weeks in humans (10/9/22) OR it could take longer. Keep in mind, this is only the first human experiment. Also note that it seemed skin elasticity and other markers were trending upwards in improvement when the result was taken at wk16 so even in pigs it could have improved after 16 weeks. However Hopefully week 16 results and beyond will prove great efficacy.

My hope or wish is for Dr. Barghouthi to do a Verteporfin trial on someone with burnt-out scarring alopecia like pseudopelade of brocq. I'm not a scientist but the idea to microneedle the heck out of the scarred area and inject the whole area with Verteporfin mixed with some fibroblast growth factors and see what quality of hairs can be generated.
@HairTransplantNetwork

@@emilphoryew9436 I believe a few years ago I went through a stressful period which I haven’t experienced before, wish I tackled it earlier but dermatologists are useless like you said. Gave me nothing but antibiotics and honestly, it did help but I was not down for the whole “for life” thing where I destroy my gut and face irreversible side effects (which I did experience lmao).
