Those mango and avocado grafts 👌 I tried grafting about 1.5 ago, and two of my 5 attempts took on my avocados. So, for being new in grafting, I think it went well. Also did a graft in plum and took. Now I need to find scion for different avocado varieties. Hope I can get some this coming up Saturday at the scion exchange. Thanks for the amazing videos. Love watching them.

Hello. I always enjoy your videos!! I have just started grafting for a couple months. I was wondering where I might be able to get some Reed or Carmen Hass scion would? My brother Has a 30 or 40 year old avocado tree in his back yard in Whittier that produces NO fruit. I would like to graft onto it. Hector

Hi AJ! Thx for the great avo videos. I eat them up - the videos, I mean! I have a grafting question for you. I live in NE Florida (Zone 9B) and have been experimenting with creating multi-cados using cultivars that can handle our cold winters and humid summers. One particular grafted branch is concerning me. I put a couple of Mexicola Grande cuttings onto the trunk of a large seedling using a lateral graft technique. The first graft was doing great but got bumped during a wind storm and came off. The second cutting also took well but and has been adding a ton of foliage but the graft seems to be pulling away from the trunk. Half of the graft healed up well but the other side is open and I’m afraid of losing the branch after a year of growth. Ive removed some of the foliage the graft still seems like it’s twisting open and at risk of breaking. It seems to me like a well-placed stainless feel screw might pull the scionwood back onto the trunk. Have you ever made such a repair or heard of such a thing! Also, is there something I should use to fill in the open I terror of the graft if I do use a screw to secure the graft?
@AJTheGraftMan

Thanks! I’ve never made a repair like this. I haven’t heard of anyone trying it either. Can you email me pics of the graft? Ajsgarden123@gmail.com

Wow your an avocado maestro! Where do you get all your scions? I know you've said it depends where you live. I'm trying to get some to the UK but it's hard to find reputable places. Any trusted places where you know would be big help that do any shipping would be great. I've got friends that can hopefully send it across the pond.

Thank You AJ, I have watched many of your videos. I am too scared to try my hand at grafting. I am still new at gardening, and I love to experiment and try new ideas. So its been a big learning curve for me. Thank You AJ for your experience and knowledge you have shared with us. Very grateful and fortunate to have you as a teacher. Simple to understand and to the point. I just love Avocados. They are very expensive to buy here. Only been living here in a rented complex for 20 months, and the garden soil is terrible. Just grass growing when we arrived. Have to start from scratch to build the soil. So while we are doing that, we will grow plants and fruit trees in buckets. Hello from SA🇿🇦🌍👍👋

Hello Stephen, That is so awesome that you have had successful grafts with all your avocados 🥑 I would love to try my hand at grafting. I have a few seedlings I grew from seeds. I bought grafted Hass and a Fuete. I have them in the green house at present with the seedlings. I want to grow in pots, as it's not a big yard. Also we are renting a house in a complex in Natal. Only been here for 20 months. We lived in Joburg before moving here. So what varieties of avocado trees are you growing? I 😊 too, have watched videos on KZitem, I have learnt so much from people like AJ. We are so fortunate to have such great teachers. And it is proof that you have achieved good success. 👍👍👍👋 Where did you get the tape to wrap around the grafted area?

In ground Jan 21 and grafted June 22. Now filled with flowers. Also 4 others in ground and a pinkerton in a large pot. On order from Krugersdorp are Reed, Maluma and Nabal

The best time i have found to graft mangoes in my area has been in july/august, when night temps are above 65 degrees. Another factor is, the fresher the scion, the better. we are lucky to have many different vatieties in our yard and we have a very good success rate on our mango grafts. when we purchased mango scions from florida we had only 20% success. and for citrus i have had success from march-september. so citrus is way easier here in the SGV

Hi AJ Nimlioh for the people!!! how many Nimlioh trees are you making? Where did the scion wood come from? Have you ever seen a mature and very large Nimlioh Tree? So far I’m having very good growth on the 4 trees I planted last spring. Trees were made at epicenter. I need to get motivated to start grafting! I know Epicenter got Nimlioh scion from Frink and it’s from the Nimlioh in the “collection” but don’t know if the 3 trees are there still.

@@AJTheGraftMan I think I lucked out with some good Zutano seeds the trees were grafted to. One of the trees (all 4 planted 4/22) is now pushing 9 ft and it was a tiny 1ft baby when I planted. I can send you some in depth photos of all 4 trees if you want. I am impressed by the tree architecture. It grows upright like Reed but there is a rigidity to the limbs where Reed Limbs droop, Nimlioh shoots out long branches that arc. Upward with no drooping. It’s a very exciting thing to watch these trees grow. I’m having excellent growth results with 5 Nabal Trees as well. All Nabal from Maddock Ranch. The oldest planted 4/21 is a towering bushy tree at about 12ft right now. The foliage has to be the most beautiful of all avocado trees.

So you don't have to wait till your tree is 3-4 years old to graft on it? Can we graft on seed that has a good stem growth? I have 2 in pots that are over a year old. Might need to have you come back again for more grafts. The one that you grafted, some of the grafts are thriving on it!
