I wear above-knee skirts regularly at age 63. It’s not about one’s age, it’s about what one’s legs look like. Thanks to genetics, mine look better than most American teenagers’. Who says I can’t show them off?

I paired a red sweater from Talbots along with red shoes and white jeans recently when I went out for dinner with my husband. Not only did he love the combo but much to my shock I got all kinds of compliments, mostly from younger women on how great the outfit was. What a boost for this almost 70 year old lady. Thanks go to you for showing me how to go outside of the fashion box while staying classic and modern!

Life-long learning for sure! After I took early retirement I went back to university, and graduated in 2022 with a B.A. in archaeology. And in order to achieve the required number of credits, I also took two semesters of Italian. Granted, as a modern languages teacher I had a bit of a head start, but now I can communicate in five different languages. Ladies, we are NEVER too old to learn something new.

Thank you. I recently traveled to Croatia with a tour group. I am well over 60 and was the only person on the tour who made any attempt to learn the basics of the language. Many of the locals spoke decent English, but they seemed to appreciate and find some humor in my attempts. I do this every time I travel internationally, which is not as often as I would like. 😂

Hi Beth! You’ve captured it all - follow your personal style - and ditch outdated fashion ‘rules’. I don’t want to see everyone dressing alike because a particular look is in style. I love to see people expressing themselves through fashion. I have a friend who always creates a unique look - you never know what she’ll combine - but she always looks great. Congratulations on your channel growth!

You are oh so stylish, Beth. Happy New Year! Looking forward to new content in 2024. I finally became comfortable wearing white jeans in the winter. I'm originally from Chicago and when I moved out west, I was still following the "never wear white after Labor Day" rule. I hope to learn French this year as my husband and I are planning a trip in the fall. My new creative wardrobe pieces this year include a black watch tartan blazer, a plaid pair of trousers (similar to the ones you feature in this video), and velvet pants. I want to wear these pieces throughout winter, not just for the holidays. Thanks, Beth.

Hi Beth. You may find this amusing... My dad spoke spanish, and I studied it all through junior high school-- right up until we moved to Paris. I went to the American School of Paris and it was all French after that! The only time I used my Spanish after that was on one vacation to Spain...and still had to adjust to a castillian pronunciation! (Surprisingly, I did find that knowing French and some Spanish helped me to understand a little bit of Italian when vacationing there.) Unfortunately I have only rarely used either one of them. I was able to help out a couple of French tourist when they were trying to decipher a really southern accent and colloquialism (a really southern salesman, when asked for directions to another department in the store, responded "over yonder" as he pointed. The pour confused tourists just looked at me helplessly and I translated for them. That was well over fifty years ago, so you can see how often I need my French in Georgia! I may have used it a time or two on the gulf coast when ordering dinner in a cajun restaurant!😅 Enjoyed your video and have taken your advice on wearing white in winter! Thank you for all the sage advice!

I so agree with each one of these old style rules. It's funny, we took our first trip to Europe last fall. It was just a cruise to Norway, our of Southampton, but as I was trying to choose my outfits for what I knew would be a primarily non-American sailing, I asked around to ladies I knew were from Europe if Europeans worse white in September & the fall. I would get bewildered replies, not understanding why I was asking. LOL

I never heard the Labor Day “rule” until I saw fashion content on YT, it never seemed to circulate here in the San Francisco area. It seems to have originated just from one snobby country club in the South, but who cares what they think? Unfortunately, brands seem to follow this “rule”, it’s nearly impossible to find true white clothes or accessories for autumn/winter, except for “basic” white shirts and tees. But, true white is my best color, those yellowish ivory/cream colors don’t suit my coloring. I would be depressed if I had to wear black and gray for six months a year, I don’t like either of them. I’m a big fan of light colors year-round, and yes, on the bottom half, too. I followed that “dark on the bottom half” rule for years because my Mom insisted everyone had to, but she did have generous hip and bottom curves and I never have. She only wore black leggings tor 30 years, yawn. What’s could be more fresh, classic and versatile than white 501s? Year-round. Age 63.
@BethDjalali

I lived in San Francisco and they definitely adhered to this outdated rule.
