What caught my eye in this video is your using the Stealthstop with a RAS. I'm curious as to how you mounted the stop to the saw table to keep the table and fence square (adjustable)to the blade. I don't see that you have answered this -- forgive me if I missed it. My RAS is the Delta Model 10. Any tips and advise would be greatly appreciated. My first thought was to install the Stealthstop in an extension table as you have done in your video! Thank you, Jeff for this and all your great videos!

Kelly, I am going to assume Delta's set up similarly to DeWalt's. The main table is fixed and the fence is held in place against the back edge with a couple spacers and built-in clamps. Normally the fence is just a piece of stock about 3/4" thick and 2" tall. What I did was use a piece of full 1-inch stock and cut a rabbet in it to mount the StealthStop track. At this point in time, I only use it for square cuts. When cutting angles I swap it out with a "plain jane" fence.

@@WoodpeckersLLC Thank you, Jeff! Yes, the Delta is the same as your DeWalt. I only use my RAS for square cuts. I use the table saw and miter saw for miter cuts. My RAS was my first stationary power tool in my shop. Sadly doesn't see as much use these days. I use the same Woodworker I with it that I see you also use.

How do we align the t-track part with our miter saw? Does the t track section align with the miter saw fence, or does it align just in front or back of the fence?
@WoodpeckersLLC
8 ай бұрын
There are lots of opinions. My approach is for the StealthStop fence to be ever so slightly behind, but parallel to, the miter saw fence. This eliminates interference from the fence on boards that aren't perfectly straight. The miter fence can then make the cut square to the last foot or so of the board.

What I love about Jeff's videos is seeing the classic tools in the background that I grew up with and are now mine. I caught a glimpse of a Woodpecker's red Plumb fiberglass hammer recently. But that Dewalt RAS in this video is identical to the one I inherited from grandfather back in the 80's. Do you know what year that beauty is Jeff?

Les, The 1400 was made from about 1960 to about 1962. I could be off a year or two one way or the other, but that's the window. It was the second of the "square arm" design (after the 925). The big advance was the totally enclosed fan-cooled motor compared to the open winding motors of the MBF/GWI machines that preceded the 1400/1500. Many RAS fans feel the 1400 was the last great saw before Black & Decker learned the joys of "value engineering".

Good morning Jeff, what are the physical dimensions of the stops themselves? You indicate in this video that the depth of the track holding the stops is 3/8-inch. What is the width of the stop itself? Can you use the stops in an Incra track? You're doing a great job with your videos - keep up the great work; it's appreciated.
@WoodpeckersLLC

The stop is 3/8" thick and 3/4" wide. It fits in any standard T-shaped miter gauge slot. I don't believe Incra makes a track with a miter slot.

Jeff when you do the 2-piece table top method by butting 1/2" ply against the track, does it sit flush? Seems like the track would sit proud with the typical "nominal" ply thicknesses. Or is the track more like 15/32?
@WoodpeckersLLC
2 жыл бұрын
The track is just a little under 1/2", but with some ply you need to shim it up just a bit. There's a very nice plywood product called MDO (medium density overlay). For some reason, that product is produced at full thickness (1/2" and 3/4").

It's 1" thick Baltic Birch with micro-dot Formica on both sides. It's what we use for our DP-PRO drill press tables. It's a little hard to source unless you're buying full units (about 56 sheets). Not impossible, but you'll need to seek out a specialty sheet good supplier that caters to the professional cabinet trade. You can achieve the same effect with 18mm Baltic Birch and applying your own laminate.

What would vertical/horizontal combination be used for that you showed at the end of the video? Why would you need two stops close to each other?
@WoodpeckersLLC
2 жыл бұрын
Think of things like a small square box, where the difference between the inside fitting pieces and the outside fitting pieces is about 3/4" (3/8" thick material). That's just the first thing that popped to mind, but there are all sorts of projects where multiple pieces of close dimensions are needed. If you don't think you'll need it, you can go with either a flush mount or fence mount, and if you change your mind you can make it stacked at any time.
@mdratchet
2 жыл бұрын
@@WoodpeckersLLC In the Stealth Stop manual 'option 3' is the flush mount which is what I'm leaning toward for both 8' on the left side and 4' on the right side. My only concern is the recommended groove setback from the fence is 3/4" but then it says... NOTE: If you think you want to add a vertical fence later, use the 1-3/16" setback from 'option 1' which is the combination fence. How critical is this difference as it relates to different stock widths, ability to read the scale etc. Just trying to avoid having an oversized channel down the road if I change to a combo. And do the stops help keep the stock square? Or are they just for measurement. Trying to determine if the vertical fence is needed 8 feet out on the left to help keep square. Thank you!
@dwayneford1990
2 жыл бұрын
@@mdratchet I don't think relying on a vertical fence to make sure the stock is perfectly in line with the miter saw is a good idea. The ONLY part that matters is the miter saw fence. If a board is warped and is registering off a vertical fence it is definately going to throw off your cut. You won't be happy. Just make sure the board is tight and square up against the miter saw fence and you will be fine.
@mdratchet

@@dwayneford1990 thanks, Dwayne. Any thoughts on the option 1 vs option 3 setback question?
@dwayneford1990
2 жыл бұрын
@@mdratchet I'm still struggling with that question myself. I'm going with the flush mount - 8' on the left and 4' on the right - the same as you. As for the stops they won't make anything square. They are simply for measurement. You will want to square up the end that rests against the stops anyway - as well as the opposite end too I presume. If the end that rests against the stops is out of square, your measurement will be off.

I really messed up my miter station T-track and measuring tape installation. I want to remove that t-track and the measuring tape from the crooked groove I cut for it and then route out the 2-1/4 inch groove for this Stealthstop setup so that the new wider groove will cover all my bad mistakes. Once I get the 2-1/4 inch groove cut, can I glue or epoxy the Stealthstop in place rather than using the bolts from the underside?

One more option...you could surface mount the track on top of your 3/4" material and add strips of 1/2" plywood to the sides of the track. That's discussed at 9:30 in the video. I'm going to be talking more about this in tomorrow's (7/8/2022) Deep Dive. I built a new miter station for the Model Shop and used MDO plywood instead of Baltic Birch. I love Woodpecker tools, yet can only afford a few items of what they offer. I wish the would also make an affordable line that would enable others to get in their line. Some products, regardless of what some say are the best, are those that can afford the upper level goods. Not everyone can put out the $$$$ for some of the insane pricing. I know, like other companies, that you’re paying for R&D and machine cost. But aren’t the majority of these item made on CNC machines and laser etched? So I don’t see a lot of labor creating the products once the items ideas have come to fruition. A break for the working guy would be great. Dont believe metal bending will be an issue. Also why not make some sort of push button cam that locks it in place. Having to use a tool that will no doubt end up lost seem like a downgrade from the fences with star knobs as locking knobs
