I've upgraded my axum along similar lines. Except I went with 140mm in travel. Of course I ride urban/commute so it overkill. The only things I haven't replaced are the wheelset, the saddle post and the 8 spd shifter. Everything else is upgraded and now I'm upgrading the frame.

That bike now has a decent enough fork, rebound is a must. No you won't ride with a pogo stick. 👌As long as you look after it, get it serviced, it should last you a long time. Unless you do redbull rampage on it and crash with a nose dive. 😁 Even a downhill fork can snap then. 😁

@@HunterErwinMusic OK, probably best you did that then, most cheap bikes have Shimano quick releases, those are usually fine. Some have different kinds that have the clamping offset so it's not 90 deg to get them to clamp like the Shimano quick releases that had the same design for decades, same as on bikes in the 70s, just different finish, minor design differences.

I am just curious how is the engagement on the hub? Is it decent? Or huge dead one? I have Hope Tech Pro 4,but I see Spank has new hubs that beat the Hope Pro 4 hubs in engagement to a similar price. Are those hubs you have easy to service? Have you tried yet? I don't need to know for my self as I have a high end enduro bike I built up, I am just curious. Those hubs I mentioned are some of the cheaper decent hubs on the market, industry nine, Chris king, project 321,Box, Onyx are at the other end of the price range. But those will surpass the budget for most buying this bike.

Johannes Nilsen The stock hub is fine I changed crankset out and BB I feel that’s a must But the hub is fine It’s a little slower on the larger gears but not bad at all. Both of the hubs you mentioned are good I’ve seen the spank wheel and wheel hub for a decent price as well

Johannes Nilsen Degrees ? Are you meaning headtube angle ? It’s at 66 degrees with that 120 mm fork
@mtbboy1993

@@HunterErwinMusic no I mean hub engagement, how many degrees it has before it engages, industry nine has 3, 6 pawls with 120 points, I think, hope has 8.2 deg with 44 tooth pawl, leaf spring design. Chris king has 72 points, Dt Swiss has 54 points with their star ratchet system
@mtbboy1993
4 жыл бұрын
@@HunterErwinMusic hub engagement is important but this is usually a compromise even on bikes that are in a much higher price class, hubs can have a huge dead zone before it engages, making riding harder, for example to get up a technical climbs, 2ith a proper hub, you can move the crank arm less and engage the hub thus you have much better control over the pedal stroke, but with a cheap hub like før example Shimano Fh m 475 the dead one is so big you will often hear a loud bang, and when you pedal you notice the horrible dead zone very often,and if is gonna be very annoying. So what I have on hope pro 4 is really the maximum of dead one I can accept, anything worse will be barely usable, some climbs will be impossible some much harder, but with Hope I can climb up most things, I am a skilled rider, I managed to climb up some quite tech nical stuff on a bad hub but it was challenging, I had to time it perfectly, the stock Formula hubs on the 2024 trek fuel ex were also bad, not as bad as the original hubs on the 2010 Trek 6300,which were fh m 475.
