The upgraded version, while a bit different, seriously looks way more like a rogue / bandit indeed. The tax collector is almost perfect as is. It is a bit strange to me, that they went all out on those 2 characters by adding cloaks, while they were clearly the best and most interesting figures already.

I think the Tax collector fig would actually be great to army build and make into a faction. Not a full kingdom in my eyes, but more of a noble house that has sworn fealty to the Lion Knights, but they would still have their own goals and aspirations. I think the torso and legs would look fantastic with some simple flat silver armor pieces to denote guards, men-at-arms, etc.

@@Goldfyre A griffin is a great sigil for a medieval faction! I think, assuming the parts are on pick-a-brick, I’m going to get maybe 8-12 of the torsos and legs to outfit in different armors. Maybe one to be the lord of the house, and this tax collector would be his son. Kind of House Lannister vibes. Loyal but also a bit mischievous. The arrogant expression in the tax collector, plus purple being historically seen as a royal color, lends well to the house having a high standing/outlook on themselves

The hood of that red dress lady is one of the best pieces. I'm glad Lego is bringing back head covers for females (also different one in lion knights castle), which were almost mandatory in medieval times. It would be great to see some head covers for male figures as well, but fot the ladies it's way better than random weird hair pieces.

Thoghts on the tax collector: use the legs on a viking lamellar torso with either purple or light blue gray arms and black, brown, or light blue gray hands (lbg only if you use purple arms). Add black or lbg armor accessories. Now you have an alternate medieval Roman soldier to compliment or to oppose the dark red version (gotta love civil wars). The torsos can be used for light troops or as a bambakion (gambeson) under a breastplate for extra heavy elites.

@@arbitrary2868 The lack of information ticks me off too, we had no way to prep for it. When I emailed them about it I only got this answer (and mind you it was only the torsos that went up in price not the legs). "Like many businesses, we’ve continued to see increased raw material and operating costs. For some time now, we absorbed this impact in an effort to keep our pricing stable and consistent. However, in recent months these costs have rapidly increased, so we have made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) and wholesale prices across some of our global portfolio of products. Finding the right price for a product isn’t easy and depends on a lot of factors. When deciding a price for each region, other factors come into play, such as statistical data about a region's population, transportation costs, currency exchange rates, local laws and taxes and the prices of other toys.".

Aside from the bandit, which clearly looks better and more menacing, I think it is more a sidegrade video than an upgrade video. They have become largely different minifigs for the most part, or were ignored as they were either boring or already good. Having more animals in de set definitely is needed. I like the goat and there are a bunch of smaller animals like a kitten, a squirrel, 2 birds, a bat and a snail. However, I would have forgone any of them except the goat and the nesting bird, to get some extra farm animals like a cow (for the cart that currently has nothing), a bunch of pigs or sheep (or both) would have also worked. Also, any larger medieval set really needs horses, as it is the primary way for people to get around in those times. Having two, or at the very least one horse in the set would have helped make it more lively and less stale. Overall, while I'm fine with the minifigs that came with the set, they aren't spectacular and there are a bit too few for what the set costs and how busy a town square should look. For 10-20 bucks more, they could have added at least some farm animals and 2-3 extra villagers, even if tbey weren't including new prints. That would have made the set much better, even though the value in this set comes from the buildings and the ton of detailing parts that have been included for those. Compared to the Lion Knight's Castle and the Viking Village, this is probably the least value for money, but it is still well designed overall and a ton of fun to build and display. Out of all of them, this is also the one that is easiest to upgrade yourself, by adding the animals and minifigs and maybe some more market stalls to fill up the town square.
