Get out the scale and measure, jeez! How hard is it? We need to know if we're in the ballpark on this slap action business.

Excellent video, this guy is a master so just hearing some of his playing preferences is really helpful for someone trying to develop their own sound. The website art of slap bass is also a great source.

There is a solution for all the problems guts have, if you still want a almost identical sound: Superior Bassworks strings.

One of the RARE times I've seen My Bass on the tube, had mine since 1988!! (Even played it Unaplified on Occasion!)! Very Underrated bass!!

You should take a look to mexican corridos tumbados, listen to "ya no me preocupo" by Herencia de patrones They use a mexican variation of the upright called Tololoche which is really similar but with nylon strings and different tuning (most of the time).

Absolutely and thanks for the heads up on that one. We discuss the great Manny Tololoche in our main interview. There's so much great music coming from Mexico!

Hi guys. Love this video. If I was to join your course with Joe, as I'm only been playing DB for 2 years, can I benefit from using weed wacker strings? Guts are extremely expensive down here and my strings are not that old. Keep up the great work, cheers

I can't reply for Joe, but I know that Weedwackers are popular with some players. I've not used them before so would suggest that you start with what you have and see how it goes. Not all bassists playing slap have a gut string set up, so it is possible on a regular set.

Use rotosound weedwhacker line e and a tends to sound dead.

I made the mistake of buying real gut strings my first time. They’re way too expensive and annoying for upkeep. Now I use Superior Bassworks Deluxe synthetic gut strings. Highly recommended and much cheaper.

You want to know what really is key to Joe Ficks great sound?? It's Joes fabulous playing ability. Joe could make a shovel with a string attached to it sound good.

Peavy? If so, I agree. Some of the gear was alright, but most of their bass amps we’re displeasing to the ear..

@@paulnicolosi4792 It's all garbage 🗑️, worthless equipment. I hope NO one buys their basses or amps and etc, because you are wasting your money 💰. I recommend everyone go Better Business Bureau and help put them out of business. 🖕Peavy🖕
