Scenes end when they start to drag, or if they hit a high point that serves as a closing line. An experienced improv player feels the rhythm of their scenes, especially when performing on a team. One team member can signal the end of a scene by walking in front of it to center stage, as Amy Poehler does in the first scene here.

to me, that's the funniest thing about great improv, is that it comes together so naturally, it looks like it must have been prepared in advance. a really good improv show will inevitably have someone go home and give it a bad review on yelp, all "bullshit, no way they made that up on the spot." what do you even say to that? "sorry we had such a good show man, we'll try to fumble through the next one a little to make it look real for you"

I agree with you, Evan. Improv performers practice quite a bit to become very good, to make it feel seamless, solid, and as cohesive as something that was scripted. That is something that many people assume doesn't happen. Plus, groups like Asssscat have been performing together so long that they are familiar enough with each other to make scenes feel very professional and natural.
