To be fair, and as much as I often cite myself Paris liberation as an example of the Résistance achievements, there is also a simple story of numbers. Warsaw was less than 1M inhabitants total, and it's estimated some dozens of thousands of fighters. Paris? More than 5.5M in the urban area, and given most of the public servants joined (police, firefighters, gas, water, train employees, the video says it better than me) the Résistance was probably hundreds of thousands strong. It was just impossible for Germans to hold it. The presence of the American army (and FFL division most of all) sure had a "spark" effect and pushed out the garrison, but they didn't really fight for Paris. And Germans fleed Paris in part because they knew they had no chance of keeping it, not only in fear of allied troops.

what sabaton songs taught me (and uprising specifically) is that war is the same everywhere. as an algerian we are always taught since young about the algerian revolution, the horrors commited and heroes that fought for the country. but if you take poland out of this song uprising. it could very well speak about the algerian revolution, or the liberation of paris like in this video. that war isn't just heartless soldiers killing each others, but war is about simple women, men and children dying for their country living in hell and still being brave when people talk about wars that their country was not part of, they often talk about it as foolish and cruel, but in reality it was the very same suffering their ancestors went through too.

Spot on. You got it right. It is this why I always have to grin and just stay silent, when yet another opinionated outsider associates Sabaton with politics, pro-war, or even fascism or any of that nonsense. I think that at least a majority of all Sabaton fans actually has a better understanding of war, including all its horrors, than what the majority of the general population knows and understands. However, it's always the biggest idiots who are most sure about knowing something. In reality, the answer usually is: it's complicated.

Amazing video as always! Fun fact. Among the first allied troops to enter Paris were the members of the 9th company from the Leclerc division, also known as "La Nueve". It was mostly composed of exiled Spanish republicans. Forced to abandon their homes in order to escape prison and possibly execution, they chose to continue their fight against fascism. They showed remarkable courage. Reached the "eagle's nest" in the 5th of May, 1945. 35 of them gave their lives and 97 were wounded during combat operations. Many felt betrayed that the allies didn't take the cause against fascism after the german surrender. They are heroes. Widely forgotten until very recently. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.

The next unit to enter Paris was the 4th US Infantry Division commanded by Raymond Barton, and they did so the day after La Nueve did. A fact: the first allied soldiers who entered in Paris were spaniards from the 9th Company of the Régiment de marche du Tchad ("la Nueve"), exiled soldiers from the spanish republic who enlisted on the French Foreign Legion to carry on the fight against the fascism. Because that, during the victory parade they were de Gaulle's honor guard. If you watch the photos of that day, on the front of the half-trucks you can see names like "Ebro", "Guernica", "Guadalajara" (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b5/La_nueve_erfgheeg.jpg)... old battles from the Spanish civil war. And today, the gardens near to the City Hall are called "Jardin des Combattants de la Nueve" on their honor (during the uprising, they liberated that building). Fun fact: the newspaper of that day says "ils sont arrives" with a photo of a french officer... named Amado Granell

These Spaniards were not the only allied soldiers who could not go home. Nearly 200,000 Free Polish Forces personnel, including my father who came to Australia, could not go home to Communist Poland. That was really interesting story! The French uprising was very different from the Polish one.. And it was the one that ended up with a success. Fortunately. Wow, Peter Stormare is a real badass. Epic! About the Warsaw Uprising - it is still a very hurtful topic here, in Poland. We mostly get really emotional about it. I don't know about the younger generation now, but Polish people in general are strongly into the history of our country, it's so important to us.
@Paerigos

Well it was another example of an idea where locals completely threw a spanner into cog of plans of military planners. Ike was in essence holding up as much as possible on liberating Paris... why? Well because he was just happy Germans had to feed it. the millions of people to feed was annoying strain on his troops... every day Germans held it was resources they had to expend on it. but contrary to Zhukov Ike´s forces were relatively well supplied and did not undertake significant offensive actions just prior to that. Zhukov on the other hand just conducted major operations and has stopped for general resupply. So - even if Stalin was inclined to send help (he wasnt) Zhukovs armies would have to advance in situation when it was not convenient to do so. So Ike did not risk that much when he send forces to help Paris. Zhukov could probably loose his head if he tried (without Stalins orders) and it turned into a big casualty problem he could not militarily justify... (could loose him the one thing that saved him from Stalins purges - he was so sucesfull that even after war Stalin could only send him away, but did not dare kill him). So - even when we can assume Stalin had no intentions of helping Polish resistance because of... well... it was not friendly to him. Pleeding resupply issues is perfectly valid reason for not doing anything.

Fun fact no one talks about: apatride antifascist Spaniards, integrated in the 9th batallion of the 2nd armored division led by general Leclerc, known as La Nueve, formed the spearhead of the "liberation army", which entered Paris first, broke the Nazi lines, shot back and destroyed most machine gun nests in their way to the Place de la Mairie, reached it, took down the Nazi flag and raised the French and the Spanish Republic ones. Later on, Charles de Gaulle showed up and claimed victory for the French, as a boost in morale was needed, even though the French themselves had little to do with the liberation itself. And that's why the garden located next to Paris' city hall is named "Jardin des combatants de la Nueve", honoring those forgotten heroes no one talks about. Just like the daughter of General Dronne said: "had these men been American, hundred of movies would have been made about them." Respect, honor and glory to La Nueve!!

Only when I realised that at the start Joakim was the one on the balconny i figured it was all shot for the clip. That feld disapointing knowing that this great looking movie about Poland in the second world war did not actualy exist.

Awesome how much history was revisited with this one. People with different political backgrounds coming together to face a common foe... imagine THAT! I love hearing the stories of the things that happened on the set. Can't believe he was brave enough to walk down the street in an SS uniform.

Hum, a video about the liberation of « Haute-Savoie » can be a good idea. The savoya liberated Savoya without a direct help of the allies. (16 August - 19 August 1944) and Savoya become the First departement liberated only by the FFI.

It would be very interesting if you told that the allied soldiers who first entered Paris from the Leclerc Division where spanish not french. Spanish republicans who continued the fight after the defeat in Spain against the fascists.

I was really hoping for at least a footnote mention of Leclerc's 9th half-track division (La Nueve) made almost exclusively from republican Spanish veterans that were the first ones to enter Paris, were given the position of honour guards for De Gaulle in his entry parade in Paris and also immediately backstabbed by propaganda saying the first ones to enter Paris were French units in a half-track called Emily, to boost the nationalistic spirit. You can watch videos of the parare and you can see names of Spanish cities on the vehicles. I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. I'm just stating it because if we (the descendents of Spanish republicans) don't mention it, nobody else will. Maybe it could fit in an Union or Far from the fame pt.2 video? I know for sure there are a lot of other cases like this that would fill up a sizeable video.

Did you know the first men of the Free French Forces to enter Paris were not actually French ? A good part of them were in fact Spanish Anarchist from La Nueve, the 9th Company of the Régiment de marche du Tchad, a unit of the French 2nd Armored Division that incorporated many Spanish in exile. They were fighting the fascist since 1936, a long way to go to Paris... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Nueve

Being a bit word picky here, but I try to improve on my English using this as exercise: Wouldn't "last stand" @0:30 be better phrased as "final effort"? Last stand, to me, implies a continuous fight beforehand and total defeat afterwards.
