Every time I try to style and brush my hair upside down, it comes out awful,l. Yet every time I see a new video with upside down styling I’m tempted to try again, including after seeing your video. What products did you have in your hair before you brushed it in? Do you find that your volume sustains throughout the day? Your hair looks gorgeous!

Finally a video wich gives attention to the back of the hair. I love de upside down technique for the clumps, but not for the back of my head. I will try your technique soon on washday, hopefully it will work for me too 😊

I use the pointy end of a tint brush to lift my hair from my head when I'm diffusing right side up. It works well and does not disturb my waves.

If I stay upside down to diffuse, I get the weirdest, wonkiest parting. If I try to flip right side up, everything is stuck to the back of my head (even after shaking from side to side). I have been experimenting with right side up styling (and watched your video), but can't seem to get the volume you have. Any tips?

@@teodorapopa9286 I finally figured out a way that works for me. Maybe it could work for you 😊 I part the hair that is before my ear and place it up, separating it from the back. I use all of my stylers with some water on the hair at the back of my neck, moving it from side to side (much easier than all the hair). When I have made sure it isn't stuck to the back of my head, I move on to the front using my water bottle, a styling brush(I part is where I would like it to go here) and then after parting, put stylers in upside down and then scrunching from side to side. The movement from side to side and parting ahead of time seems to help. I typically don't style on soaking wet hair. I plop it up after putting in my leave in and let it air dry for a bit. I get the curls to clump by spraying them and using a styling brush so they're not stringy. I hope this helps. I think it's all trial and error. Good luck!

Hi, I just tried this because I need the root lift drying upside down gives but was always having a stuck to my scalp mess. I had one little problem. As I was diffusing upside down doing what you said to lift the hair up off the back I noticed that because I didn't have any styling products back there my hair when cotton candy texture. I went back and rewatched your video but didn't see anything regarding when and where to apply the gel. I finally assumed it had to be either in the shower or off camera. THEN when I did apply it I didn't put any on the back of my hair 🙄. I know! I should know this by now. Just the clump pieces hanging down in front. My question is when did you apply your styling hold product? I'm afraid if I apply to my backside while wet or otherwise my hair will stick even more to the back😩. I'm newly subscribed and trying to watch everyone of your videos. This video has been the most helpful one and I did achieve volume, curl annnnd my hair didn't stick to the back like it usually does. It was mostly unstuck to my surprise😊. My hair is fine, low density wavy/curly. It will do both. I am definitely going to keep trying this because the lift it gives is great. Just need to know when you put your styling hold product in, lol. I hope you see this because it would sure help me a lot. Thank you for taking the time to do this video!!!

Hi Kim! I always apply my leave in OR curl cream before brushing. Sometimes I add a little gel and then brush. I then plop to get dressed and put on makeup. Once I take my hair out of the plop, I apply a bit more gel and then diffuse. It’s up to you if you want to apply gel before or after brushing. It’s always worth the experiment ❤️ thank you for your question! Sorry I didn’t make that a little more clear in the video.

Wavy Curly Ali Thank you SO much for responding so quickly! I will try these other tips as well as the little gems I'm finding in all your other videos. Can I just say that I knew about the shaking off the head thing but for some reason with you something clicked and I had an ahah moment! I know it's hard to keep saying the same things over and over sometimes but you tubers should take heart and know sometimes just changing a word or doing something physically with your hair to explain DOES make all the difference in the world💖

Thank you! Then just gently roll your hair from one side to the other every so often to help create some volume and ensure your hair doesn’t stick (ie move sides every 15, 20, 30 mins depending on how quickly or slowly it dries).

@@WavyCurlyAli Thank you for responding. I really tried and got a decent amount of curl, but I'm afraid there's no hope for the back of my head. Here's the tragic story: It wasn't until after my perm that I discovered the Curly Girl world. Neither perm nor color lasted more than a couple weeks, so I'm trying to follow along with your techniques. After using the rather expensive DevaCurl products my husband's hairdresser sold him only five times, I discovered the back of my head is nearly bald. I can no longer wear my hair loose, which breaks my heart. 😭
