Out of our rapidly worsening climate crisis, a social movement is emerging.
Young people are playing active roles in identifying innovative solutions to the many environmental challenges they care most about - the ones that affect them directly. The USDA Forest Service Urban & Community Forestry Program sponsored this energizing, fun and dynamic youth-led climate summit ─ Upward Ground: A Nature Equity Experience ─ in partnership with American Forests.
The inaugural summit was hosted at Southern University Baton Rouge, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). The event was the first of a series of summits designed for and by students and emerging professionals from historically excluded communities and academic institutions. Upward Ground removes barriers by providing participants with access to tools, resources, activities, opportunities and people that will help them in their careers and along their journey to achieve climate and environmental justice.
