Cy, just wanted to say hello! Another great video, you're doing a great job and I for one appreciate it! Do you have any recommendations on the everyday life of ordinary people from this era? I am very interested in how the people went about their lives.
@HistorywithCy

Hi Michael, always great to hear from you and hope you're doing well! One of my favorite books on the subject is "Daily Life in Ancient Mesopotamia" by Karen Rhea Nemet-Nejat. It pretty much has everything along with many primary sources/texts concerning everything from cooking food and recipes to medicine, divination, religion, paying fines, everyday laws, farming, etc. That would be my number one recommendation. If you want to know specifically about daily life and trade in Assyria, then "The Might that was Assyria" by H.W. F. Saggs is another great book. I'll check my collection again and see if there are others but those two, especially the first, are what I'd recommend. Any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks again!

I'm glad I found this video. The.name Ur was the ancient Akkadian word that meant city or town . There are 7 ancient cities in the Middle East named Ur 1 Ur nammu in the video 2 Ur uk a nearby city 3 Ur also a nearby city 4 Ur garit an ancient city on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. 5. Ur aritu which is today called Van in Turkey This is where Noah lived . The Ararat mountains go right down to the shore of lake van which is the 4th largest lake in the world which experienced tremendous glacial flooding 7500 years ago . 6 Jerusalem The original name of the ancient city was Uru Salam 8000 years ago.. in the modern Arabic language Salam means Welcome. So roughly translated it means welcome to Ur. .7 Ur fa this is actually the oldest city on Earth . This is also the birthplace of Abraham. There is a cave where Abraham was born which today is called. The cave of the Patriarchs . The artifacts here are 11,000 years old .5000 years older than the Artifacts in Iraq . This is also the Garden of Eden in the Bible . In the first chapter of the Old Testament it talks about . GOING UP TO HIGH PLACES TO PRAY Abraham's cave is along the Euphrates river and if you walk 3 miles up a hill you come to Gobekli Tepe which is the oldest payer site in the world. Also 11,000.years old So Radio Carbon Dating proves that Urfa was the first city on Earth . www.google.com/search?q=urfa+turkey+the+bitthplace+of+Abraham&oq=urfa+turkey+the+bitthplace+of+Abraham&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIJCAEQIRgKGKABMgkIAhAhGAoYoAEyCQgDECEYChigATIJCAQQIRgKGKABMgkIBRAhGAoYoAHSAQkyOTc1M2owajeoAgCwAgA&client=ms-android-att-us-revc&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

@@HistorywithCy Thats interesting, and it makes me think, why not make an entire episode on succeeding codes of law as you did with cities, since that is a fascinating topic and it would bebunk the idea that only Hammurabi had one. I think people would love it, since the rule of law is a great human achievement, but still today it is at risk, even in rich countries as we have seen recently in Hungary and Poland, not to mention the USA.
