The City of Light has not always had the fame it is known for, and if today it is given the title of romantic city par excellence, it owes it in large part to Haussmann. Throughout the Second Empire, the baron persisted in making a medieval, dirty and unhealthy Paris disappear, in order to bring out of the ground an airy, unified and embellished Paris, but also luxurious and gentrified. Despite the criticisms of the time, the Paris of Haussmann remains intact today, and the urban heritage left by the baron lives on.
