Toby, I have been watching your videos for awhile, and trying a few sketches myself here and there. I am in awe of how you simplify your scenes, and your step by step process to add initial color, then details. While it looks loose, the scene also feels realistic in its atmosphere. I am relatively new to watercolor, and have been watching varied tutorials. Urban sketching once seemed daunting, but now seems possible! Thank you for your great instructions, they are much appreciated.

Hi Karen, this is really lovely to hear! Thanks so much. It's such a lovely comment I wonder if you wouldn't mind me using it on my website? I have a little testimonial page and I would attribute the comment you've made simply to Karen from KZitem. Absolutely no pressure though 🙏👍💙

Interesting to see this come together Toby. You don't usually apply shading in the sketching stage but it worked well. Looks good in the end - another one to try

You make loose sketching look so easy! I suggested a while back, a loose sketch of Tobermory and loved the two different techniques you used. Can I make another suggestion pls? My daughter loves visiting different countries for their architecture. She has just returned from Riga, Latvia. An amazing set of buildings is "The Three Brothers". Could you do a demonstration on how to sketch them pls?

I enjoyed your video as usual. I find in Australia our light is just so more saturated and even our shadows can be less dark. I love how you portray mood.

An excellent video as usual. I would suggest that at least for step 5, you zoom in the camera some. The sketch fills a rather small percentage of the screen, and at that point we don’t need to see your paints. Thanks!

@@TobySketchLoose Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it doesn't help those of us who don't use block, but individual sheets or whatever else is available.😏

Do you ever do other forms of sketch & watercolor other than loose?
@TobySketchLoose
Жыл бұрын
Sometimes, but I must admit I don't enjoy it so much. If someone asks me to do a commission for example, I will ensure it looks very recognisable - the colours will bleed around a little but far more controlled. I really just sketch to relax and enjoy myself, so I focus on that rather than realism
