URENCO operate their UK uranium enrichment plant on a site in Capenhurst, some 5 miles north-west of Chester. It dwarfs the village for size, and can be seen from the train, but is otherwise largely peaceful and unnoticeable, apart from during the site's mandatory REPPIR/COMAH siren testing, which happens on the first Tuesday of the month at 10am. There are two or three sirens on site, probably GP8s (but not confirmed). With regards to their location, one siren has ben pinpointed and the other(s) remain undiscovered.
They use the classic tones - wail/attack in case of an emergency, and the long, steady all-clear tone once things have returned to normal. These are run sequentially, with a short pause between one signal and the other, on test days. The site also has a series of quieter two-tone alarms for personnel on site, audible towards the start of the video. They were tested first when I visited, causing me some worries the big sirens had been replaced!
