I live in this area (I was born in Eureka in 1967). You passed by the exit (701) where my apartment complex is at around 7:53 in this video. I have always loved this area for its sheer beauty. Sadly, not all of the people are as nice as they used to be, but there are still plenty of wonderful people around here, and plenty of great places to visit.

Sitting here in Eureka and watching this while eating dinner lol. Always interesting to see where you live from someone else's perspective.

It's all part of the unique Pacific Northwest (western Oregon here) The forests, rivers and mountains are magnificent, the coast is unspoiled, majority of the towns and cities aren’t ugly and sprawling and the people are generous and down-to-earth.

Good one as usual, Kyle. Never been up there, but my Mom and Stepdad used to RV up there in summer before he passed away, so it's nice to see some of their old stomping grounds.

Moved to Eureka at the end of '22 .... what an amazing Northern California coastal city .... but you'll have to deal with summer highs in 60's and low 70's 😁

Fortuna. Art Bell. C Crane. For as much as I ordered from C Crane for awhile there, this video is the first time I'm actually seeing what Fortuna, California looks like, even if it's from US 101.

Eureka really does look like a nice place to visit. It reminds me of Monterey down on the central coast: history, culture, tourism... you name it.

I quite liked music switch when freeway ends we enter the southern edge of Fortuna. Looking forward to the next installments - my trip north on US 101 a few years ago ended around Trinidad.

11:41 And to your left is the Humboldt Hilton. Everything in Eureka looks the same as it did when I moved away 10 years ago, with the exception of an In and Out, and Denny's is now IHOP.

I haven't been to Eureka since 2005. I didn't know there was In-N-Out. Otherwise, the town looks the same. The population has remained the same my entire 64 years of living, from a low of 24,000 to a high of 29,000.

I lived in Arcata for a while back in hmm, 1973? Hard to recall. I was rooming with a bunch of other kids, all students at either CR (College of the Redwoods) or Humbolt State College, which later became UC Humbolt. You didn't mention UC Humbolt when you listed the local colleges, did UC Humbolt later become CalPoly Humbolt?

8:17 pretty much every freeway section of the 101 north of Marin County was built before 1970, when the environmental lobby starting flexing its muscle to impede public works projects.

Excellent video as always, Kyle. It's great to see the forests of Northern California. I really like the music behind your outro - you used it to brilliant effect in your video of Medicine Bow on Wyoming Highway 130: kzitem.info/news/bejne/p3-X12hvaXh5p3o. I'm looking forward to the rest of 101 in California.

My haunting ground for many years, really loved the North Coast, especially between Eureka and Crescent City. Eureka was invaded by hispanic and Asian wannabe gang punks in the later 90's, snd made the nice mall unsafe.
