You have taken me back home to Chicago, same time period, the fun I had with my Dad and brother, going to US-30, during the summers, listening to the cool commercials on WLS Radio, riding in our Dad's 1971 Chevrolet Impala, then getting to US-30, climbing the bleachers to the top row ( my Dad liked the other side), waiting for the final runs, after spending our $1 each at the concessions, and, my brother buying the logo stickers, what pleasant memories! Thanks!!!!!

Growing up in Gary as a kid in the 70s, racing was what many adults always talked about. I lived in the downtown Gary area in the early 80s...those cars were so loud it sounded like they were a block away, but they were actually 7 or 8 miles away. I loved it!💚🙌

Great video. "Have your tires hotter than theirs" strategy is well documented here. Didn't always make a win, but fun to pay attention to. Thanks for the memories!

I am so grateful that this exists, ....and I grew up then....and can see this now......back then, there were no camera's going on much....nobody wanted to be involved with camera's and phones back then. Again, grateful for being 18 back then........

Great video, thanks for posting. Reminds of the nights the Coke a Cola Cavalcade would be at NY National Speedway. Believe it or not they would even race on Tuesday nights. Those were the best years of Funny Cars for me.

I was there many times for the funny car competition. Once we park at the end of the 1/4 mile there was only a post and rail fence between us and our cars. Mongoose & The Snake were Big back then. We were watching from the end of the track and they started coming down and Mongoose got into the grass on our side. Went through the grass 30 feet in front us at 180mph. I will never forget that night.

Great video!! I saw Ed O'Brien unfortunately destroy the "Fever" Corvette (car in the far lane @ 1:00) in a nasty crash at a Division 3 race at US 131 Dragway in 1976. As a kid, the Chicago Patrol and Ohio State Patrol funny cars were my favorite because of the flashing lights. Would you happen to remember if that was Ron Colson driving the Chicago Patrol?

Ouch your killing me smalls 🤣 Custom Body against the Boston Shaker a legendary match up! These guys ran against each other at the land of NED a bunch. Division 1 New England Dragway. This was and unusual strip because the fans may have had their favorites but the reality was they all were thier favorite. Like most tracks jungle ruled the show but having so many cars and fans from all over new England it was hard not to claim the Boston Shaker and the Boston strangler and king and marshall who actually really did own the track As your favorite. Look it up and you see the records. I was blessed to have had over 20 funny car teams with in an hours drive of my home. Not to mention Al Segrini the Super Brute was my neighbor. I can't even count how many other cars were around since nearly every gas station and garage had a race car back then No matter who you visited they were the greatest guys ever!

I remember staying out on Sunday afternoon long after the pros went home when the light was getting dim and they would allow you to run and get a slip. Not my car. 57 Chevy convertible, 283 automatic, hydraulic lifters, single 2 barrel, with a lift motor for the top that weighed over 300 lbs. But it was pretty, fire engine red with bucket seats. Never forget that smell of burning rubber, fuel and early evening mist. Also blown engines, tow truck scavengers and crushed dreams.
