We cannot live mundane relative life without some expectation. That freedom comes at the later stage when we merge into Divinity. Examples of how not to be disappointed when the appointments we make with life do not materialize. Externals do not bother us if we have that strength within.
Planning is necessary to prevent us from concentrating on the negative. Otherwise we would be mindless. This is not the yogic state of no mind, but we cannot remain even in that state. We have to come down to earth and regard the earth to also be God. This is the symbolism of the cross. Story of the samurai warrior who is defeated by a mouse. So knowing that we are Divine, we have expectations, but we are not attached to them. We rise above the polarities.
Example of Islam and how expectations are deferred. Example of how we can take things with us when we pass away. This is due to great attachment. But it is like a dream in the subtle state. Furthermore, the suffering those attachments create is amplified. "Give us this day our daily bread" is the essence of non-expectation.
Further examples of attachment and disappointment. "Thy will be done" is pivotal for all religions. That is surrender. We act for the sake of acting, work for the sake of work, love for the sake of love, and accept the result gracefully, for what is given is given by grace. Without expectation life is joy.
