One important lesson about shopping at Menards is, do not park near the entrance. Rather, park near the exit. You will have to walk the same distance either way, but on your jaunt to the entrance, you will be empty handed, but when you exit from shopping, you will have a "trolley" filled with your purchases to maneuver.

I think the need to *mail* in the receipt, the weeks-long wait to get the "rebate," and the postcard-like rebate are all part of Menard's plan. They want you to *think* you're saving 11% on your purchase while doing as much as they legally can to cut down on the number of times they actually have to follow through on their promise. I don't ever shop there because, even if they were the same price (without the "rebate") as Lowe's or Home Depot, I just find the mail-in rebate annoying and tedious to be saddled with.

When I bought my first (and only) house, I intended to purchase a push mower much like yours. My realtor introduced me to a neighbor of hers who was a gardener, to do my lawn care until I got the mower. 31 years later, the gardener has retired (but she set me up with a replacement) and I still have not purchased a lawn mower. Overall, I'm happy that I don't do my own yard work.

5:19 just an FYI: an Edger is a VERY specific type of weed eater. it's designed for the 'blade' (the area where the 'string' comes out) to be turned sideways so that it cuts vertically, thus creating an 'edge' to the grass, like at sidewalks or driveways. Some weed eaters will also have this ability, but specifically Edgers are already designed this way and are useless as a normal weed eater. they also usually have wheels on them to aid in the job.

One thing I like about Menards is they basically have two layout plans, and one is pretty much a mirror image is the other. Once you learn to navigate your local store (and we do), you just look whether the lighting section is on the right or on the left as you enter. You can then figure out where almost anything else is in the store. It will be where it is in "your" store, or in it's mirror image location. That's a GOOD thing. I hate shopping and actively avoid chain stores that use "creative" layouts store to store. In a new city I will always go to Menards first because I already know where the stuff I want to buy is going to be. I don't know which Menards you visited, but I knew exactly which aisle your where in!

I call the layout you're thinking of 1.5 story, with out-of-season items and the employee lounge "upstairs". They also have full 2 story layouts with glass elevator and cart escalators, where lighting, electrical, plumbing, kitchen, bathroom, housewares, storage, appliances, clothing, and windows and doors are all "upstairs", in addition to the out-of-season stuff and employee lounge. If it's in a classy neighborhood, they'll have a piano at the top of the escalators, and maybe someone playing it on weekends. There's a pre-1.5 story layout too that's mostly been replaced by the newer floor plans.

If your picking out a lawnmower, you should judge it by cutting width. How wide do you need to cut, based on how big your yard is and how much room you have to turn. Also, you can get mulching blades on a mower so the grass clippings are mulched up to help the grass grow better. Works on leaves as well so you don't have to rake them, you just mulch them up as a natural kind of fertilizer. Plus, less work.

Quick tip. If your worried about theft, add some black electrical tape to your new extension cord to give the illusion of age or crappiness. This can be applied to many tools or objects of value. Where I currently live in NYC you can have a brand new $8,000 bicycle and completely cover any identifying marks or labels with electrical or friction tape to hide its value and give the illusion that it's not worth it trying to steal it. I tried this with a particularly attractive ex of mine who was physically way out of my league. It did not go well. Lesson learned.

Friend.. if you have to tie down, lock and cover with electrical tape all of your possessions to prevent theft, then perhaps its time to relocate? Not even being sarcastic. I live in an area of where people still don't lock their doors. Someone had their chain saw walk off last month and it was a big deal. Turned out a neighbor borrowed it and forget to tell the owner. I have a Milwaukee 18 volt trimmer. Got it for my dad before he passed, as it is about as powerful as a gas trimmer but considerably lighter. Only issue is that it goes through a charge extremely fast, though we knew that going in, and dad wasn't able to use it long enough to deplete the battery anyway. Been a bit more of an annoyance now that I'm using it. I still have the gas powered one around in case I need something with more endurance, though.

You pronounce it just like jingle in the commercials. The 11% rebate while a way to sucker you back in later is actually really helpful. I got a new garage door opener two summers ago using nothing but the rebate cards with about $3 left to purchase candy at the checkout. Also, Menards has a track record of EPA violations. There's a really bad habit at the main distribution center of dumping things like paint and stain down the drain instead of following proper disposal procedure.

When you get your 11% rebate, it is a store credit, so you got a reason to go back! In winter you can stroll through the light department and it will help keep you from Seasonally Affective Disorder. Menards has better selection and prices then Lowes or Home Depot, plus it is often in smaller towns than those chains. Menard's is the best!

I love Menard's. Where else can you buy lumber, laundry detergent, breakfast cereal, milk, eggs, a lawnmower, clothes, a car battery, a DIY kit shed they'll deliver to your door, and concrete mix all in one store? And they're not lying about "Save Big Money". They're generally lower, or the same as the competition. I grew up on this store and have fond memories of going with my dad to the "yard" and picking up a load of lumber, and sticking it through the windows of his car on the way home. Menards is truly unique. It's honestly one of the best parts of the Midwest.

Being in Texas, I'd never even heard of Menards until they used it on a riff on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 back in the 90's. Still never been to one in the wild. Don't bag it. Leave it aLawn. Let it act as it's own mulch. =) My grandfather used to have one of those stupid push mower things like that. 40 or 50 years old in the early '80s and hard as hell to push. Was _so glad_ when he bought a little, used Cub Cadet riding mower. Summers got _so much_ easier after that. I never called a Weedwhacker/Weed Eater™ a brushcutter, before. The ones we have around here are much more industrial; requiring something like a Bobcat, tractor or other utility vehicle to use, or an actual circular blade attachment of some kind. Fishin' line ain't gonna cut it. In fact, it'll probably just annoy the clumps of brush.

I LOVE Menards! I save up all my rebate checks and when I need something and don't necessarily have all the funds for it, I can use them to either pay for the whole thing, or a good portion of it. Also, I LOVE Worx tools. You should be pretty happy with your weed whacker. I use the battery operated version (GT 2.0) and love it. What is rebate money?
@Excitable67
Жыл бұрын
@@nigelwylie01 Well, it's not actual money, but more of a really good discount you can use later at that store. At Menards, if you're not familiar with the store, they will often have an "11% off rebate sale". What happens is, you purchase the item(s) for the listed price (be it regular price or even sale price) and they will give you 11% of the total amount of your purchase (minus tax) back in what they call a "rebate check". Sort of like store credit. I'm probably not explaining it well. If I bought $300.00 worth of items at Menards during an 11% event, I'd be able to fill out a form, send that in with a special section of the receipt, and I'd get back $33.00 to spend at the store at a later time. You just get more for the money you spend there.

Menard's also has freezers filled with bacon randomly distributed throughout it. There are also "secret" sections of the store where you can get gas station-type items or look through their supply. Many items are only in their secret storage. I know this because my dad and I once went through an RPG adventure trying to find one extremely specific thing which multiple employees told us were at different places. The other thing about menards is that Midwestern kids love to make the "OW! my-nards" joke as if they just got kicked in the testicles.

Push mowers are OK if you have a fairly small yard and it is flat or a very mild slope and are young. Weed wacker and Weed eater are both used by me, pretty much interchangeably. I have both a plug in electric one and a battery powered one. I use the battery powered one most of the time. The much more powerful plug in one gets used when I have been lazy and the weed growth has exceed the capability of the battery powered one, or if the weeds are wet.
