The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford completes the first scheduled explosive event of "Full ship shock trials" while underway in the Atlantic Ocean, June 18,2021. The US NAVY conducted shock trials new ship designs using live explosives to confirm that our warships can continue to meet demanding mission requirements under Harsh condition they might encounter in battle.
The US Navy has released a stunning video showing the moment a bomb exploded in the middle of the ocean before triggering an earthquake some 100 miles away.
The jaw-dropping footage shows the 40,000lb bomb exploding in "full ship shock trials" where they are testing the effects such a device has on Navy ships.
The explosion caused a 3.9 magnitude earthquake about 100 miles away in Daytona Beach, Florida, a phenomenon which is not unusual during similar trials.
It was carried out underwater, with a Navy ship being above water. The trials will show how durable the ship is to bombs and how effective they will be in battle.
The United States Geological Survey measured the seismic event roughly 100 miles off the coast of Ponce Inlet, a town just south of Daytona Beach.
The video, recorded from the wing of a US Navy aircraft carrier, has already been viewed almost 30,000 times on Twitter after being shared by @warship_78.
The explosion attracted unwanted attention despite the Navy saying it was completely safe. The bomb was detonated to the side of the aircraft carrier to imitate possible battle conditions it may face.
