We all know that there are dangerous no-go areas in most countries, including the US, so why did his travel agent not warn him?. Ask anyone who grew up, in Neibouring Gugulethu before ANC was in Government, they knew that Nyanga was a no-go area unless one had a death wish. It's disingenuous to blame the ANC for the legacy of Apartheid in the Cape Flats and Cape Townships, which led to overcrowding massive unemployment, and crime. Not to mention that this has always been a DA Province since 94. I'm sure the victim, being from the US understands this well because it could have happened to him in some parts of the US too. Just recently the same thing happened to a British doctor, who unfortunately was killed, after being directed to the scene of the crime by the police. His family asked the police for assistance, but as per usual, they were standing around, gossiping and checking their phones for social media updates - Meanwhile. some overfed minister is crying about being attacked and that is WITH bodyguards mind you. I'm not from Cape Town but I used to travel there on a monthly basis for business. On my very first trip there my GPS did a similar thing and led me to the Cape Flats (didn't know it at the time) but my spidey senses started tingling when I saw a building that I had recognised from a recent episode about gang violence on Carte Blanche so I called my colleague back in JHB that used to live in CT and she confirmed that I was indeed in a very dangerous area and I needed to get out ASAP. While I was on my way out 2 guys jumped in front of the car, one was pointing at me and shouting and the other ran his finger across his neck while staring me down, I had plenty space to go around them though and got out of there with a dash of speed. I was also hi-jacked in Empangeni in 2001 by 2 off-duty cops, I thought it was tickets for me that night, they didn't just take the car, they held me at gun point and told me to drive while threatening me with my life every 5 seconds but I was eventually let out just before the farmlands started. I spent some time in the UK a little later on and foreigners sometimes do not believe our stories of crime, they think we are full of it, they have no idea how bad it can get in SA. This is a very lucky man indeed.

I came to SA in December of last year and I experienced a hi jacking. Probably was the most scariest experience of my life. I thought I was gonna meet my maker. My bolt driver stopped off at a bush just 45 minutes from where I was statying and pulled a gun to my head. Searched me told then told me to lay on the ground like a starfish and i thought I was a gonna meet my maker. He asked for my pin and of course I gave it to him. Then he got back in the car and drove off. I really feel for this guy because I understand exactly how he’s feeling the immediate response is to leave but then South Africa has so much yet it’s so dangerous. He didn’t want to leave with that being his lasting memory of SA. Kudos to him for staying. Advice for people Thinking of touring SA. If you’re a tourist don’t act like one. South Africa is too dangerous to freestyle. Don’t go anywhere that isn’t lit with tourists. Unfortunately, her visa application was denied, so I had to go to South Africa.
