Reyna needs to stay in the midfield, you can’t take weah off to play reyna on the wing, they are different players and are both really valuable, we need both of them on the field. Honestly depending on who we are playing I’d just leave musah at the 6 and keep mckennie and reyna in the midfield. And then if we really need to defend switch adams and musah. Let’s call a spade a spade. The US struggled to score goals last cycle for three main reasons, because Berhalter refused to bring the most talented guys, even though we lacked a Balogun type striker he kept using players like Ferreira. Second, Berhalter’s “system” that refused to utilize a 10, the US created nothing up the middle. The only strategy was overloading wings and having poor crossed from Jedi to a non existent target striker. Lastly, his refusal to bring the most talented pool, opting instead to bring his guys instead of the most talented 23 or whatever allowable number for the pool. That has a cumulative affect. And it’s not unknowable, Berhalter’s teams prior to his hiring as national team manager all struggled to score goals and create chances. The fact the team has looked better since he’s gone because the assistants just keep it simple and do the obvious things and let the players play is why the team has looked so much better without Berhalter.

🤦🏻♂️😂 LDLT not starting was not a surprise. The team needed a 6 which was already leaning toward Musah if you’ve been watching how he’s played the last few games without Adams. They also needed speed and work rate to deal with Davies which naturally made sense to go with Aaronson. This is in no way an indictment of Luca. He’s not even close to being a 6. He is an 8. He came in the second half and did his job. He’s not the player that Gio is, but is a solid backup 8.

What's your thought on the guys who didn't play? Booth, Sonora, Zendejas
@davidmilko6065

Booth, Sonora, & Zendejas are all offensive subs. In both games (Mexico & Canada) we were looking to close out/manage the game defensively. Generally you don't bring in an attacking player when you're up 2 goals and are just trying to kill off the last 20 minutes. Zendejas should be the starter @ the GC; Booth is someone just starting to get integrated. We'll see him start to get some minutes when we're playing against some of the minnows of CONCACAF. Sonora I don't think belongs in the A-Team. I expect Malik to be the preferred back-up.

While these were nice wins to help solidify ourselves as the Top Dog in CONCACAF we still have a ways to go to challenge against the world powers. We can get there but we need our players to sort out their club situations. This is going to be a very important window for the guys like Pulisic, McKennie, Dest, Balogun, Pepi, Aaronson, Weah etc.... They need to be at clubs that will challenge them, but where they'll get consistent minutes. We need guys like Malik, LDLT, Sargent, Booth, Richards, and others to settle into more consistent play at their clubs. Its also going to be important for GGG to adjust and relax his approach/tactics a bit more. Gregg has some fences to mend (Reyna & Pepi) and he needs to move on from some of the MLS lifers (Long, Roldan, Arriola, J. Morris, etc....).

That feeling you have about LDLT -- I have a very similar feeling about Brendan Aaronson. There are a lot of people that look at him as a potential starter, and I just don't see it. In the Canada game alone, he filled in for Weston McKennie in the first half, and then he took Gio Reyna's spot in the second half when LDLT came in. While Brendan didn't necessarily play poorly, in both instances, there was a noticeable drop-off. It's nice to have a guy of that quality coming off the bench, but a bench/role player is all I see. He's a good guy to bring on late in the game to run at tired legs, but if he doesn't start to provide more in the final third, with young players like Tillman, Paxten Aaronson, Paredes, etc. beginning to break through, Brendan might struggle to make the final 23 in 2026.

Balogun just has more pace than Pepi. He may be a little smaller, but that quick burst separates him from Pepi. Pepi makes the runs, points to the spot he wants the ball, and makes the well-timed runs, but he doesn't have the same instant torque (EV reference) that Balogun does. I love Pepi, but think that he has been passed for the next 2 to 3 cycles due to speed. That is if everyone stays healthy.

I agree with all of your opinions. I also was particularly disappointed with Luca's performance. He's a talented guy and he shows how good he can be against the lesser CONCACAF teams. But he seems to struggle against athletic pressing. He definitely needs to learn from Yunus especially how to defend against being dispossessed and how to scan nearby defenders better before receiving the ball. Busio has this problem as well to a much greater degree. Can't wait to see which players emerge from the younger player pool. So far, I really like Brandan Craig, Obed Vargas and of course Gaga Slonina. I'm hoping JoGo can become a reliable backup to Jedi (and Caleb Wiley was much better than I thought). Though Cade Cowell definitely has some curious lapses in ball handling and decision making, he really impressed me with his tenacity and athleticism in the U20 World Cup. Didn't see enough of Kevin Paredes but he's a promising youngster too. And Diego Luna is always intriguing, though he definitely needs to become more consistent, especially against better quality opposition. It's too bad Paxten Aaronson wasn't released.
