Mass start is basically all 24 skaters start together at the same time. As to why they separated into 2 groups I’d guess to keep from getting tripped up in 1 giant group but that’s just an assumption

Stolz is in Inzell now for the All-Arounds and may he take part in the sprints.The latter event isn't held often The All-arounds are March 9-10.

Score points on laps 4,6, and 8. And then make a podium finish (1st, 2nd, 3rd place). Points at the end are tallied up.

They’re taking a page from track cycling, specifically a cross between the Madison (two person teams) and points racing. Like track cycling, it’s hard to know what’s going on, even for the officials. It’s all about the points on the lap after the bell rings and usually the last lap is worth more points. If you break away and lap the field you get a ton of points in track cycling. Not sure here. I’m a trackie so I’m guessing…😅
