What a wonderful way to teach a lecture. Wish i could attend his lectures. He must be popular among peers and students. He reminded me of MF Doom.

Thank you, Prof. Bourgeois, and BRAVO! I found out about you and your work just now, having had the exciting-to-me-thought that rap must have its antecedents in Homeric poetry and VOILA! Here you are proving, RAPPING! the lineage. BRILLIANT. Could you please comment: Is there a way to trace spoken word poetry/praise singing to its geographic origins? Of course I'm wondering if there is an African source from which the Mediterranean poet/singers drew influence. It seems highly plausible: the rhythm of the Odyssey and Illiad might well stem from a drum beat. Pardon if in your work you've already addressed this. I'm a newly minted fan. Someone else commented here on the prospect of your working with Lin Manuel Miranda to create a full production: I so hope you reach out to him and pursue this idea. It has legs, not to mention wings! BRAVO AGAIN

even if you were reading the iliad in ancient greek (but you're not so your comment makes even less sense) you're still not reading a sacred and untouched iliad because it was likely recited orally before ever having been put to writing..

You realize that millennia ago, the Iliad was recited, not written right? If anything this a return to tradition. As long as it helps students engage with the material, what is this issue?

it was originally supposed to be oral poetry and that's what this is goofster
