Very Useful training. I wanted to apply similar case in my dash board. This video has helped me to do so

The top X rows were not deleted from each file just the first one. LOve this though so close just need to know how to delete the top rows from all the files in the folder.

Many thanks, Doug. I'm just learning Power Query and a few weeks ago I needed to do exactly what you did in the first method, i.e. get text (actually the first three chars) from the containing filename, and I couldn't see how to do it. I ended up with a hellish convoluted workaround based on a numerical value in one column of the file. Power Query is extremely powerful (!) but boy, it's not very intuitive to work out how to do quite basic stuff. I Googled it but couldn't find anything. Thanks again.

Hi Doug. Awesome tutorial! I struggled with this until I learned about renaming steps, storing results in step names and referring to steps prior to just the previous step. It opens up a lot of possibilities. Your lesson is a perfect example of how it can be used. I like to write my own custom functions and then apply them to the files in the folder vs. letting the UI create all the steps and then modifying the Sample File. But, either method works. Thanks for all the great videos and learning opportunities. Gaining experience one step at a time :)) Thumbs up!!

The ability to reference back to previous step was EYE opening for me when I learned of it. What a fantastic capability :-)

Doug, this was a very helpful video for me - thank you! In your example, your files only have a single sheet. How do you modify this so that the transform sample file selects specific sheets in a file instead of pointing only to a single sheet?

Glad it was helpful! You can pull the sheet names in a separate list and bring them in. Don't have a video that does that, but have other videos that have similar concepts. See if these spark some ideas. kzitem.info/news/bejne/wJeq1GiBpYeCh6Q kzitem.info/news/bejne/yYmwxYhmgah2gX4

@@DougHExcel Thanks for the reply and apologies for not being very clear. I'm still a noob at Power Query but I already see the amazing capabilities of it. No, this video is most relevant to my situation. The only difference is my data files have multiple tabs and I need to pick up the data in multiple tabs (but not all). Let's say each state file has 5 tabs labeled A through E. I need to combine/capture the data in tabs A, C and E for each file. As far as I know (which isn't much), when I set up the transform sample file, its for a specific tab. So when I run the query, it only combines that particular tab from each file. How do I capture the other specific tabs as well?

@@DougHExcel The 2nd video is essentially what I did. I created separate transform sample files and queries for each sheet that I wanted to import and then combined those queries together in another query. I was just wondering if there was a way of using the same transform file for different sheets.

@@DougHExcel I have an unrelated question for you which I'm hoping you can answer. I built a query which includes a conditional formula column. The column has blanks which I would like to fill down. However, since the column is formula based, fill down is not working. I've tried to reference the query as source for new query but then the column has a reference formula. Is there an easy way to make it values that I can perform a fill down? My apologies for posting an unrelated question here but I couldn't find a video on the topic.
