A really good video, Rauri. One thing I noticed early on with your videos is how concise and clean they are - very little fluff; and respectful of people’s time. You did a great job of explaining how these filters work (I just started using one on my 50mm last week) - such that I think I might get one for my other lenses. 👍😄

Thanks a lot Peter I appreciate that - very kind of you! It’s a challenge to get people to keep watching and still make longer(ish) videos… still working it out. I definitely will use it a bit more for video 😊 thanks again

Great review mate. I'd never even heard of these filters - but definitely could have a use with landscape photography. You're right - it does look very much like the Orten effect. Would be cool to do a comparrison of the same scene, one with the filter and one use post-processing methods.

Great review mate. I've heard of these before, not sure I'm interested in having one personally but would love to see you using this in the field before deciding. I feel like you could achieve somewhat close to the same effect in photography in post but would love to see what you do with video. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it! Have a great weekend mate and stay safe.

Thanks mate. Yeah I reckon it is similar to orton effect too! Which is cool. I reckon the shot took in field looks quite similar to the orton effect, I’ll do another comparison as Rob recommended comparing the same scene with the filter, with a photo of the same scene without the filter but using the orton effect - would be nice to see! 🤩. Thanks for checking this out.

Interesting filter I can see that being useful for example filming some video during the Golden hour before sunset at a beach, maybe with a model included in the shoot. Also as you suggested for woodland photography. It would be interesting to compare the same composition with the filter and then without the filter and processed with the Orton Effect.

Mixed feelings about these type of filters ie ones that generate a look that could otherwise be achieved in post. Because they’re destructive you are stuck with the outcome, whereas if you do it in post and don’t like it, you just go back to your sharp contrasty original…..Then again of course anything that reduces time in post is good as I’d rather be shooting than processing……as I say mixed feelings 😁 it did look good on the lighting for the video (again though easily achieved in post I suppose). Still good review mate - very informative and great presentation 👍🏻
@RauriBarron

Haha yeah agree with you, this was just a bit of fun mate! I found it fun to test the capabilities and this concept. I’ll definitely be sticking with post processing for my photography as I don’t want to have this effect permanently on my images. But for video work I see the value and benefit in using this! Creates a more natural effect on video footage (easier too) than post production and can see why they’re used in films 😊 thanks for watching

@@RauriBarron I'm actually playing about with an IR filter atm (debating whether to do a video with it) and have the same thoughts - loads of fun to play about with, but I wouldn't use it seriously! Nice video mate, I’ve never used a black most filter. I’d love to see you use it in field as I do a very subtle Orton effect so anything that speeds it up, would be great!

Nice man. It looks like the black most requires an increase in exposure by half a stop to retain both the original exposure and filter affect?? What do you reckon?
@RauriBarron

Yeah it definitely does require a around half a stop I’d say. I tried to keep it same for comparisons sake! If this video had done well I’d make a part 2 as so many good ideas in the comments. Thanks for watching! 😊

You know, I am still undecided when it comes to these filters for youtube talking heads. Somehow I find the skintones coming across a bit unnatural. For a scene I think it works well for humans, somehow feels strange
