User Defined Types (Structs) in VBA
Video description
----------------------------
The goal of my Excel VBA tutorials are to take you from a beginner level to a confident Excel VBA developer and programmer as quickly as possible. The best way to do this is to help you UNDERSTAND Excel VBA code and how to build robust Excel spreadsheets.
User Defined Types (Structs) in VBA are somewhere between a set of related constants and a class: they can contain member data of various variable types but all of this data is public (any part of your program can view and edit the member data). In addition they cannot contain methods (functions). However, they can provide a useful data structure for holding related information in a structured way.
In this free beginner level Excel tutorial we use Microsoft Excel 2016 and you will learn:
1. The Syntax for creating a user defined type (Struct) in VBA code;
2. How you can initialize or set the values for the member data of a VBA Struct;
3. How to declare a User Defined Type in VBA using the Dim keyword;
4. How you can access the values within the member data of a user defined type using the dot operator (and the intellisense dropdown);
We also review how to build an enumeration using MZ-Tools code snippets, how to include an enumeration in a user defined type and how to build a Select ... Case block around an enumeration using the MZ-Tools select-case tool.
The video uses Excel 2016 but the same steps are used for Excel 2010, Excel 2013 and equivalent versions of Microsoft Access.
