I love the Carvin AG100D, very useful and sounds great. 1. Most line outs don't sound too great. 2. Whatever you do on your amp will effect the sound going to the mixer, which isn't a good thing. I am not saying all line outs are bad, you need to decide that yourself for the purpose you would be using it for. In a live situation you need a mic level to go long distances, line outs are line level, which means noise over 25ft.

You would have to go into your vocal processor first from the guitar output and then into the Baggs because you will need the XLR output to be last in the chain. So you get GTR ->Proc->Baggs->PA. That'sthe only option you have I believe.

Radial makes a high quality DI. If you have more than one and you are getting the same results I would start looking at your other gear and make sure to eliminate all ground loops. The odds on getting two defective Radials is pretty unlikely I would think. Check all of your outlets and make sure they are grounded. You can grab an outlet check device at Radio Shack or Wal-Mart.

An active di can get power from 48v phantom power supplied from the mixer through the xlr cable. Like a condenser mic does.

The order is correct however the pedal has a DI built in usually. Haven't seen one that doesn't. The XLR output on the pedal IS the DI output. If you are using some like a Boss ME-50 (or other electric guitar effects pedals) for effects then yes go into a DI after that.Thanks for the comment!

I think the pre-amp in the guitar will color the sound a lot more than the DI box. That said you do get what you pay for. Your ears may or may not hear a different. Do some comparisons are a local store, then get what your ears and wallet tell you to buy. The difference in the boxes I think comes down to component quality and not impacting the signal with the circuitry. More money for more research and design=a clean tone. (We hope)

When I record I usually just mic the amps, but I needed the flexibility of recording direct as well... so I bought a couple of Radial DI's for my studio. Now I get the worse ground/hum imaginable and the ground lift doesn't get rid of it. I'm wondering if it's the DI box's because this happens on every amp, guitar or bass we've tried?

Well explained. I bought a DI box to see if it would help my non amplified guitar - it has no onboard electrics and a Fishman across soundhole pickup. And it does. Do I need to treat acoustic guitars with onboard electrics and eq bits differently? Can the acoustic guitarist bugger everything thing up by then fiddling with their eq and volume settings?
@TheGospelGuitarist
7 жыл бұрын
You can run a guitar with active preamps into the DI as I show here. eq and volume controls are there to be used. Yes you can get the eq messed up by over doing it. Feedback can get to be an issue with too much of any frequency. Only eq if you need to fix something ect. Too much bass in the mix so the guitar feedback on stage? take out some bass with the preamp. Hope that helps. God bless you too my friend!

As long as you are in close proximity (read as less than 25 feet) you may do that for recording purposes at a home studio or your bands jam room ect. The DI's I show here are not "Acoustic" DI's, if you do plan on a lot of recording it may be worth an investment into a nice acoustic DI system. You can dial in a nicer tone with those. Acoustic guitars straight into the board can lack sometimes.

I read a warning on a Mic Preamp: Don´t plug it to your mixer if it has phantom power. I got a 4 USB channel mixer and I would like more info about DI boxes. So What´s the difference between an ART Tube MP Studio V3 Mic Preamp and a DI box in my acoustic guitar towards to the amp ?
@TheGospelGuitarist
9 жыл бұрын
Fogertian The ART V3 Tube unit is a mic preamp not a DI box. I have the full rack version of that unit. In a sense it is a DI as well, but only in a home studio use kind of way. I would heed the warning of using the Art Mic V3 since it too has phantom power I believe. You will fry things that way. You can use the V3 to run into your computer to record songs using various instruments. A DI box converts the type of signal running through the cables from high impedance to low impedance for long stage to mixer runs using a long snake cable systems. You don't need a DI to into you amp itself, the DI split the signal going to the amp in high impedance and the other XLR out to the snake or stage box for the snake run to the mixer. You could always just put a mic on the amp too. Hope that all helps.

If you are making long cable runs to the mixer, yes. In a live stage environment. Acoustics don't have passive pickup systems. IF there is a preamp, it is powered. The DI reduces the line noise and converts the guitars signal to low impedance for quiet operation over long cable runs.

I recently purchased a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (3rd Gen) audio interface for home recording. When I plug my acoustic guitar "direct in," or through an acoustic Traynor amp, I get a sorta "buzzy" or "grainy" sound. I've been researching this a bit, and it seems it's something known a piezo "quack," having to do with the pickup under the saddle. Thing is, I remembered I own a DI box (dPDB), and was just wondering if this might help with the issue I'm having?
@TheGospelGuitarist

I know a great way to find out, plug it in. lol DI's generally won't get rid of that though. Acoustic preamps are always a pain. I'd rather record an acoustic though an acoustic amp mic'ed up or a good pair of mics in front of the guitar. That quack is hard to eq out as well without a 31 band graphic and or a parametric eq. So much easier to set up a mic you like the sound of for acoustic recording.

No, you need to lower your guitar levels going into the monitors. Using a 31 band graphic eq on the acoustic or the monitors can kill the feedback frequencies. Some of the acoustic floor processors can handle feedback and are equipted to be a DI as well.

Just look over the pickup and connects to make sure that non of them are broken. Most likely the pickup will not work if one is bloken but I don't know how your system is wired. I think if you are using two different house circuits you can create a ground loop, same as playing live. All you gear should be used on the same circuit to avoid loops. Also your pickup may be "picking up" noise from things in the room. If recording sit back from your computer and screen for example. Just a quick question, can you leave for a week and come back to find that Roland Amp missing 😂😂. All I could see was that Amp in my house guarded by a massive Pitbull😂😂

You know these are all over the place used. You can get into the old ones for $800. THe new JC40s rock too. Would love to get me one of the new models because they are designed for all the new pedal boards in stereo setups.

@@TheGospelGuitarist I always liked that Roland amp, something about its appearance is just different than any other Amp ever made. Specially the Chorus and Vibrato section it's just incomparable to anything out there. Will be hunting that one down and a Vox AC30 Topboost model from the 1960's. Saving up the cash 😭 you can not replace the sound of Tube Amps, no sim can even get close not for another 20 years before real time sampling / playback is possible. The Pod HD Series, Boss, even the Axe Fx all have too much input/ output dry latency compared to my 1997 Digitech 2120 Processor. Seems like the older units had less input / output latency.

Run guitar to pedalboard and exit pedals into the d.i.

There are noise cancellation boxes. I don't know of a DI with that function included though.

Is it possible to substitute the amp(output line of the di) to a headphone? Using it as a monitor, to lessen stage noise. Thanks

The DI is not an amplifier so I don't think the headphones will get enough signal it hear, especially on stage. You can go directly into the mixer and hear yourself through the stage monitoring system if you don't want an amp on stage.
