doesn't hold files though like this one does for less money right?. But then again its all about hold quality.

i got one of those and honestly i never thought about doing that, but i ended up getting a craftsman 35481 and i love it. its super solid yet you can easily get into small spaces, even on ebay it wasnt hard to find a vintage one for under 20

If it’s simply an emergency use case, a pair of vice grips with a screw extraction notch will hold the saw blade fine. The Leatherman Crunch is good for this too.

For sure a pair of Vice Grips. As someone else mentioned, the Leatherman crunch is insanely good at this and makes a good handle

SabreCut SCRS01 is a kit with 4 saws and hex bit set, all using the same handle. Comes in a pouch, so nice and tidy! (could be a great add-on for the semi-small tool bag 3.0!)

I was going to suggest the Leatherman Crunch also, unless you just wanted a dedicated handle only. Besides being a good EDC vise grip, spring loaded pliers, serrated blade, etc it's also an excellent handle for files and saw blades thanks to the subtle notch inside the pliers. The notch plus the tight grip means it's not going anywhere and it feels good as a handle. You can see a few people demonstrating this on youtube. One of the many reasons I decided to get one and now I EDC it everyday along with my Titanium Charge and Knipex 5 inch Cobra and Pliers Wrench. Hope that helps, Doc!

I use this one. Takes all reciprocating blades, and screwdriver. Also any hex head, I use reciprocating saw wire brush and the hex files no need for the saw adaptor. Use any hex head shaft. Awesome.

I find myself using files more and more and know little about them. I have a couple cheap harbor freight ones. Would love a video on files.

The amazing thing to me is as a locksmith I have used Swiss files since the 80's and never knew about the adjustable handle. I always used the friction fit type. How could I have never seen these before? lol

If you are serious about an overlanding kit, than there is no way around splitting up cutting tools for plastics, tubing, metal and wood. When it comes to wood, you are either relaxed or in deep shit:) preparing your camp and fire or stuck in mud or sand etc, A silky saw, is the only option. A silky pocket boy 130 (2,56" dia) the 170 (to 3,35" dia. (most versatile, bushcrafters love them) or longer for building bridges:)) A Silky with a 14-20" good axe, like Gransfors/Hultafors a killer overland combo. As for plastics, tubing, metal by hand: recipro saws are 0.9mm thick and thin blades have a thickness of 0,3 -0,5. For any recipro saw you need 2x the cutting ability or 2x the effort by hand to make the same cut. The only use i have for a hand recipro sawblade is when working i am on boats with steel re-enfored water/fuel hoses and need the sturdiness. For this have a strange combo of a flip saw handle with buid in hex bit driver that does the hose clamps as well from Sabrecut SCRS01. that comes with 4 saw blades, hex extender and 7 bits. Would i take it on a car overland trip? No. I would take a thinner metal saw blade/handle.

I like the Lenox saw holder thing. At some point you accept the weight and space and toss a bag of power tools into your kit. For my emergency purposes, I toss a hack saw blade in my kit and figure I can make a handle with a stick or two and duct tape.

i actually have one donau elektronics MWH60 - Profiline aluminum tool holder. they make a whole series as well. HSS250 - PROFILINE HSS drill set M208 - Profiline hand saw set (t-shank) MBS50 - Ratchet screwdriver M60 - Profiline needle file set. they also make a really cool screwdriver MBS07 - button ratchet for 4 mm and 1/4 bits.

Lennox 20997eu Accepts hacksaw and sawzall blades and if I remember correctly it can be folded closed so it'd fit your toolkit a bit better

I would imagine you could use the leatherman ratcheting extension to convert the file handle to a driver, as it has a flat shank.

My solution to this problem would be to standardize on reciprocating saw blades and files only. I would use the tough build folding jab saw for the sawzall blades ( it’s the smallest handle I’ve found. For the files I’ve just 3D printed some extra thin handles. Let me know if you want me to send you some handles or the stl files if you have a 3D printer

the Craftsman is the same as General, don't know where your get them anymore, my fav file handles, I have both brands I've done extensive hand sawing with Reciprocating Blades and found you need that locking pin to keep the blade from coming loose, probably because I was sawing thru hard woods 🤪

Not related question. As you talk about overlanding a lot. What are your thoughts on Jeep Grand Cherokee WH 2006 for overlanding and daily? Its a diesel model Mercedes engine. I am looking to buy a car now and I found one for 6600 euro. p.s. Toyotas are impossible to find or over priced...

I don't know why they keep making all these handles so darn thick. This is the reason I've never bought one. I always carry an Irwin fixed blade jabsaw. Most ergonomic and slimmest handle by far.

Japaneese pull saws solve the issue of the lenght. One can have a very long blade and it remains perfectly straight, because you pull it to cut instead of pushing.
