How to Use an AED on an Infant: A Step-by-Step Tutorial**
Ensure AED Readiness:
1. **Check the Ready Light Indicator**: Ensure your AED is ready for emergencies by verifying that the ready light is green.
2. **Inspect Electrode Pads**: Confirm that the electrode pads are within their expiration date and in good condition.
3. **Verify Battery Power**: Check that the battery is fully charged and replace it if necessary.
1. **Turn on the AED**: Press the "On" button to start the device.
2. **Remove Clothing**: Expose the infant's chest by removing any clothing.
3. **Apply Electrode Pads**:
- Use the infant/child electrode pads if available.
- Place one pad on the center of the infant's chest.
- Place the second pad on the infant's back, between the shoulder blades.
4. **Follow AED Prompts**: The AED will analyze the infant's heart rhythm. Ensure no one is touching the infant during analysis.
5. **Deliver Shock if Advised**: If the AED advises a shock, ensure everyone is clear of the infant and press the shock button.
6. **Perform CPR**: If no shock is advised, or after delivering a shock, follow the AED prompts to begin CPR. Continue to follow AED instructions until emergency responders arrive.
