The exposure time will depend on the widest setting of the lens. If you have an F1.8 or F2.0 your exposure time won't be as long as 28sec. I have to use 28 sec because my f-stop only goes down to f4.0. If I could afford the F1.8 or so I would certainly get one. I have to try and set the LV on my EOS R. Last time I tried time-lapse on the camera all the photos were blurred. I had my camera set to manual then set to infinity from the lens display.

When you are in manual focus mode, you should see a magnifying glass on the bottom right of the live view screen. If you don't see the magnifying glass, check and make sure that you don't have AF face tracking mode on.

Hi, most videos recommend NPF over 500 rule, what is your take on that?
@WesKriesel
2 жыл бұрын
It definitely looks like a more accurate guide for astrophotography, but I have not personally used it. I have only used the 500 rule and then adjusted my subsequent exposures based on the result I got. I find that cameras like the EOS R (newer mirrrorless bodies) are more sensitive to light and don't need as much time with the shutter open. Next time, I'll try it out the NPF rule. Thanks for the tip!

@WesKriesel
5 жыл бұрын
You might consider the RP. If you're just doing photography for a hobby, I would say full frame doesn't matter - get any camera and just go out and shoot! The Canon M50 or M6 are good options. The good part of those is you don't need the expensive RF lenses. Something to consider. The EOS R is a very comfortable camera, in my opinion. I love using it!

Wes Kriesel,how do you deal with the EOS R banding into the underexposed photos or you just makes shure you are exposing right into the camera ?
@WesKriesel
4 жыл бұрын
Getting the right exposure is key. Letting in more light will help with banding, however leaving the shutter open longer will lead to light trails, so it's something you have to balance

Hi Carolyn - look in the menu (Settings > custom functions > release shutter eithoit lens. When using third party lenses, the camera doesn't recognize a lens is on the camera and won't release the shutter. You may see an aperture value of 0 as well in this case - that's another sign to adjust the memu item i mentioned. Hope this helps!

At 1.8 or 1.2, 8 seconds your iso should be 100-300. Preferably 100. A pro sales guy at Samy’s told me today to never go above 400.
@WesKriesel
4 жыл бұрын
Good tips. Also, cameras are waaaaay better than they used to be and you can push your ISO further than we used to be able to just 5 years ago. I always try to shoot with the lowest ISO, but depending on conditions and what I'm going to do with the final image, I've shot as high as 10,000 ISO with no discernable problems or grain posting on the web.
