Did you figure out what caused that choppiness in your friends video? He shot it at a pretty high bit rate so maybe it rendered poorly, especially if it was part of a much larger clip. I've had that happen quite a bit on an older system with ddr2 ram lol.
@andrewsaraceni
3 жыл бұрын
In the end, since the shutter speed was fine, I suspect it was a combination of the higher bitrate and codec used being 4:2:2, and Quicktime just not being able to process it well. FCPX even without proxies rendered it fine, as did VLC. I'd been used to similar Quicktime rendering issues before (e.g. not handling 10-bit files in general), but not in that way or to that extent.

Is it possible to view the cameras serial number from a video file? And is it possible to view the serial number of a camera that a particular KZitem video was shot with? Like if you just have the link to the KZitem video?
@andrewsaraceni
2 жыл бұрын
You can get the serial number from an originally captured video file, right off the SD card. e.g. It'll vary depending on the camera, but on my Sony's, the attribute is "Device Serial No". But basically impossible to do with a KZitem video, since KZitem compresses and re-encodes everything you upload, even if you uploaded a file directly off your camera.

@andrewsaraceni

I've been thinking about doing a follow-up on writing data... You should be able to supply those as a tag to the command, and it'll over/write the new value (exiftool -aperture=f2.8 -iso=800). Might have some issues/complications in doing that though if you're overwriting values, at least with certain video files/codecs

@andrewsaraceni

I think you can insert the tags and the values you want to write for them as arguments to exiftool. So something like: exiftool -gpslatitude=12.3456 -gpslongitude=12.3456 /path/to/your/file But I'd double check the documentation to be sure.

If I want to dig deeper to extract metadata from the hexdump buffer of the video file, without using predefined libraries and tools, how can I identify which parts of hexdump is which field for that video file?
@andrewsaraceni

Can't say I've tried this myself, but I think hexdump has a --canonical switch that will output (roughly) what it can parse as ASCII characters, so that might be of assistance.

@andrewsaraceni

If you're pulling the video directly from KZitem, it would depend on how YT re-encodes/transcodes it when uploaded, and if the creator supplied location information for the video. So, likely not a foolproof thing.

Do you know if the file is corrupt, or if there's any other issues with it? That might pose some problems, but you should generally be able to add metadata values by doing: exiftool -name=value /path/to/file Where name is the metadata tag you're writing, and value is the value you're setting for it (and enclose in quotes if there's spaces).

That could be the result of a number of problems. e.g. Corrupt OS, a failing hardware component, etc. I'd take it to a local computer repair shop (or send back to the manufacturer if still under warranty) to get it looked at further. I think for Dells, F12 on boot will give you one-time boot options that might let you run a hardware diagnostic on the system, if you wanted to try that.

In the command line, you might have to make sure you change to the directory the exiftool executable is in when you run it, depending on how it was installed. So before you try running anything, something like: cd C:\path\to\exiftool The Windows installation instructions have a few more steps required for command line use compared to the Mac install: exiftool.org/install.html

Your best bet might be to just drag and drop files onto the exiftool executable itself to get their metadata if you're not as comfortable working at the command line. You could try that, or I'd recommend following the Stand-Alone Executable instructions on the site that describe how to rename and move exiftool to the right location.
