Thank you for this information. I was not aware that the ExTele function was not available in the movie mode. I used this often with my GH5 and I was quite surprised that it was not available in the movie mode. I spent yesterday trying to film with ExTele to no avail. Very frustrating.

To me it is more or less like digital zooming that you can also do in post. It would be more useful for video, but this does not seem to be possibel.

Good to know but probably would not use this mode. For photo one would have as much ability cropping in post and end up with a similar shot I think. But you never know. Its good to really know your camera across the board. I wondered about this function and often used it on the GH5 for video. At the end you mentioned another video about how do it in in video. I think you meant (pixel to pixel vs Full - image area mode) Is that right? ALSO I was so bummed. Adobe Light Room does not take GH6 raw photos. Down the road they will have an update. When it comes to updates it could be long time and this really messes me up. YIKES Panasonic. Now I have to take 2 cameras to certain gigs. I do notice better quality in JPG with GH6 so maybe not. I'll get by.

Yes, I think this mode is really more aimed at people using the lower resolution shooting modes. Yes, thats right, that is what I was referring to. Fingers crossed for Raw support as soon as possible, it will be on Adobes radar, so hopefully it won't be long.

@@stevelitton I can’t imagine adobe not jumping on the import plug-in for GH6. It would just be another reason to move to Davinci. Then again, I still don’t understand why there’s not a battery grip for the camera, either by Panny or third party.

@@lanceevans1689 In a recent Lumix Live they alluded to it not getting a battery grip due to it being more focused on video, so people would be using camera cages, and not many people adopting the one on the GH5. They have given us USB C charging, so it's not entirely bad news.

It is cropped in the sense that it will show that way by default but the RAW file does retain the outer part of the image and you can uncrop back out in something like Lightroom which is handy.

Sadly you can't do that on the GH6, the best thing to do for that is to just just shoot in the higher resolutions like open gate and then you can pull nice big stills from it in post. Appreciate that's not what you wanted to hear

As to the renaming of this feature for video, I’m just gonna take it a guess here. Could be that since the term “teleconverter” has been associated photography for decades, they kept that term for legacy users. Whereas for a video they renamed it to an arguably more accurate term for what’s actually being done on the sensor.
@stevelitton
Жыл бұрын
I think that is probably the case, as well as the difference between the video and photographic crop being significantly different with the new larger sensor. To my mind, it makes sense to break them into two features.

Does "Ex. Tele Conv mode" work when in video mode? The GH5 only had 1.4x. On GH6 it says 2x but only in photo mode? Or does it crop 2x in video mode as well? (The sensor is already clipping 2x, what I'm talking about is an additional 2x). Thank you

@stevelitton
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, that would not be achievable in-camera using the higher resolution modes as it can't crop in to the sensor. You would need a physical teleconverter piece in-between the camera and lens like this one but it only works with the H-ES200 www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/cameras-camcorders/camera-accessories/lenses-and-filters/dmw-tc20.html MFT does already have a equivalent 2x crop compared to a full frame camera though, so that does make it popular for people shooting wildlife.

It is not something I'll ton but when it need it's there... and I will. Thanks

No problem, glad you are still finding them useful. If you shoot raw you don't technically need to use Ex Tele at all because you are shooting the whole sensor for every photo no matter what aspect ratio you use. Once you are in post you can actually crop outwards and reframe beyond what you shot for some sizes.
@sutv6754
Жыл бұрын
@@stevelitton Yes I understand that but you lead to yet another question. I use light room. When I take a picture of the moon even with my 100 to 400 it's still a small in the frame in post and I want to blow it up to fill the frame. I just crop the hell out of it and I am thinking that is not the best idea. I seem to have plenty of leeway to to make it bigger in post but I'm not sure how. I've googled it in the past. How would you do it. ?

@@sutv6754 Yes I suppose really it's just cropping in camera Vs cropping in post there. But once you crop beyond the actual size of the image you start to lose quality. For shots of the moon you could consider buying a cheap teleconverter as you would get a bit more of a punch in and wouldn't have to worry about losing autofocus.

@@stevelitton Thanks Steve. I was just using the moon as example. I often want to make my photo bigger in the frame in post. So is that the way it's done. Just crop and it will zoom in tighter.
