Isn’t high pass the opposite of what a subwoofer needs

Yes, low pass to subwoofer or high pass to speakers. So you can go either way.

Isn’t the 50 Hz low pass actually something like 70 Hz? That’s what I’ve heard from people. I’m using a 50 it just hasn’t arrived yet.

I believe there is some signal loss. I would only use stuff like this is you had no other good option.

I used those FMOD's in my bi-amp 2.4 pro audio home system (9,000+ total power). I agree with the 80/90 Hz crossover point. 100/110 Hz makes the subs sound too muddy. I still have those inexpensive FMODs but had to use adapters for the XLR balanced in/outputs (from the mixer to the amplifiers) and low quality RCA cords weren't cutting it (most are not shielded thin AWG crap). I went with an active 2/3 stereo or mono ACTIVE crossovers and using gold plated balanced and shielded XLR cabling. It is superior to those FMODs (overall) and the cost isn't that much more if you calculate in the additional cables, adapters, etc into the final costs (maybe $200 more). An active crossover lets you adjust subwoofer and mains gains...incredibly useful. However, those FMOD's don't add any THD to your system and have a nice slope rolloff (and easier on the wallet).

Thanks for sharing! Can you link the active crossovers you use?

So I got a pair in my 2 channel and the leap in fidelity after I adjusted the rest of my gear is absolutely phenomenal for the money. Cheaper than a DSP and a simple, elegant, and analogue solution. I got the xlrs 100 hz12 dB slope on my CSS 1TDX Superiors with a pair of subs and it is lovely. Great product.

Awesome that these worked so well for you!

@@Techthusiasm yeah, I expected an increase in upper range fidelity, which I got more than I expected, the increase in bass texture and just.. beauty.. with the subs no longer arguing with the speakers, just phenomenal. And I don't have to deal with another box that requires constant wifi.

Yeah, I've seen it mentioned a lot that running a lot of speakers full range limits them. It taxes them and the amps. So crossing them over well is very desirable to really let them perform in the range that matters.

@@Techthusiasm well the crazy thing about these speakers is they will definitely try. Most of my other speakers just naturally roll off. If you give these things 20h tone, those woofers are moving in and out. So I majorly eliminated that with these. $130. My system sounds so good now, I think I just add 2 more subs for 4, and that's a wrap for a good many years.

I'm running a 2.2 audiophile listening setup with JBL Subs and JBL horn speakers. I really don't want my horns playing anything below 80 hz (they honestly can't anyway). My subs have no problem playing up through 100 hz. The subs have low pass filter adjustments built into the back but neither my schiit preamp nor my adcom poweramp has the ability to highpass filter my horns. Thus, I should be able to grab a set of the 100hz harrison labs highpass filters to fix my problem, right? Or should I go for the 70hz ones? Also, how aggressive is the slope that cuts out the bass?

Yes, your situation is exactly what the high pass filters like these can help by limiting what goes to your speakers when other parts of your system can't. If you don't want the horns below 80, then grab the 100 I guess. I'm still kind of mystified that they don't make an 80 Hz model of these given how prevalent 80 Hz is, Regarding slope, it might be different per model, so check the listings. Feel free to use my Amazon link in the description to comment.

just use a active crossover!!!!!! then you can "have bass management" all this guys doing is limiting amplifier performance via the cheap inline resistance crossover RCA Couplings shown. Active Crossovers allow you to select how each high/mid Low & subwoofer sounds indivividually & set gains & your crossover levels to suit you & your rooms shape and so will avoid any unwanted outcome!!!

Well sure that’s preferable but not always practical. This is just a simple way to achieve a result in certain situations. I’ve replaced it my setup anyway now with an Anthem STR for the room.
