I do work some late hours and summer school too. So my pay for the year is pretty low. But he is willing to do more so I can be on the same schedule as our children. May pay is for the fun. Vacations, kids sports, doing fun stuff as a family and any extra goes into investments. It's OK for one person to take on more if needed. Good point about the living situation in early 20's. I rented a large walk in closet where I had to go through my room mate and his girlfriend's bedroom in order to get out. Later I rented a friend's couch in her studio apartment for almost a year. Was able to pay off all my student loan debt, never went hungry, and was even able to build up emergency savings, and ended up with a lot of interesting stories! At the time it was sometimes fun, sometimes awful, but it was worth it to have more freedom later in life.

Agreed. Anxiety is a human emotion you feel when doing a new thing you aren't sure of. If you don't run away and cry, and just suck it up and do it anyway, then you build confidence and the anxiety goes away. But so many 20something yr olds choose to run away and cry. If they do this over and over again, they convince themselves they can't do anything at all. Wtf happened to create this? I'm 60 btw. I would absolutely crumble if I were tableside waitstaff or anything that chaotic, but I can function perfectly fine under a relatively structured but incredibly busy retail or food service situation, like working a bar or as a barista. I could never drive for delivery(I also don't drive, but even on scooters and the like), but I can give presentations and all sorts of public speaking. Some things you're just not built for. But you also can't let that stop you from constantly pushing to find what you _are_ built for so you can learn to fund your own life and build your own confidence.
