Most of the garment tags use a simple adhesive designed to hold the tags in place to an iron-on patch or sew-on patch - which then gets applied to the garments. It's not designed to hold the tags longer term. We can make these tags with 'iron-on' adhesive as well which would allow the tags to be directly applied to garments. However, this is a little more complicated and you should discuss with us first.

Did the design of the NTAG213 change? That antenna looks like DNA 424 - not like any of the standard security tags I've seen

The products used in this video were both NTAG213. We do manufacture a 29mm garment spec tag with an NTAG424 DNA chip. We also continually develop and improve the products to improve scan distance performance. The same product can occasionally have a new antenna design for a new batch.

@@SeritagNFCTags so, that's a yes - the design of the ntag 213 chips has changed, thx

Technically, it's a no. The 'NTAG213' is a chip which is different than a tag. A tag is the antenna, chip and substrate to hold it together. The 'NTAG213' chip hasn't changed. In terms of antenna design on the tags - any tags with any chip (NTAG213, NTAG424, ICODE SLIX, ST25, etc) - then designs change all the time. Typically to increase yield, performance, etc.

Was there an nfc tag that can be washed and is water proof?

The 'garment' spec labels (strengthened standard labels) are generally designed to handle around 100 domestic wash cycles. For most use cases, this would be more than enough - particularly because most tags are likely to be scanned early in the lifecycle. However, there are also 'hard disc' NFC tags which are made from rigid plastic that can survive longer and can handle the harsher conditions of industrial laundry. Generally, these can be better for end of life use cases where garments can be returned for credit, refund or discounts. There's a selection of popular products at seritag.com/nfc-tags/garment

Bummer, 100 wash cycles is nowhere near enough for my use case - helping deal with the millions of lost uniform items that turn up at school. If you produce a longer-lasting one for domestic use, that would be of great interest!

Sure. You can use one of the hard disc tags that we supply. These are designed for industrial washes and will last a very long time in domestic washes - almost certainly longer than the item itself. Have a look at seritag.com/nfc-tags/22mm-tough-tag-ntag213 for example, or the NFC button tag seritag.com/nfc-tags/button-laundry-tag
