Its what I use for many guitar effects pedals and wireless mics! Been doing it for a couple of years and is very useful when you dont want or have a mains supply. A simple USB to 9V or 12V and you are good to go. Also good for keeping your internet on during a powercut as I can power my router too.

@AdamWelchUK
7 жыл бұрын
Interesting idea... Will you not already have a 12v battery system in place? I'd worry that you'd need to protect the powerbank and trigger with a diode to prevent current flowing the wrong way. In which case you'll get a voltage drop which may result in only 10.5-11.5 volts on the output depending on the wiring.
@HometownUnicorn
7 жыл бұрын
Adam Welch no my caravan does not have a 12v battery installed. It just has the ehu. I just thought this would be great when we don't use ehu witch is sometimes. Obviously I would unplug it if I was using the ehu. I was thinking of pairing the idea with the small portable solar panel you reviewed recently.
@AdamWelchUK
7 жыл бұрын
Well if your caravan is anything like mine all the 12 volt outlets and devices are connected in parallel with the battery charger and the battery. So theoretically as long as you have switched off the battery charger and with you having no leisure battery you could connect a power bank acting as a 12v supply wherever is most convenient for you. For me that would probably be the 12 volt 'outlet' next to the TV point. Having it connected to a proper caravan 12v plug would make it easy to connect and disconnect as needed. Teaming it with a portable USB solar charger is a nice idea. I was surprised I could fill a 10,000mAh powerbank in a day with that little 19w panel I used. I'd be tempted to go a bit bigger though because I was pretty lucky with the weather that day :-) The other option is buying a power bank that has a dedicated 12v output rather than convincing the QC chip you want 12 volts. There are a few available but they don't tend to be made by the bigger more reputable brands.

Thanks for this video and another smart idea. I'd like to go further and combine this with another video kzitem.info/news/bejne/0WuizWSYn5-Ydqw What I would like to do is to use original DC adapter of the device (e.g. router..) as a primary power source which would charge powerbank and use powerbank’s QC3.0 USB output to power the device (router etc.). I’d like to use powerbank, which supports bi-directional Quick Charge. Like this one: www.mi.com/en/pb10000pro/ It seems it can be charged and discharged simultaneously according to its specsWhat if I plug original AC adapter to the input of the powerbank (either 5v or 9 or 12v - as QC supports all), plug QC trigger to the powerbank’s output USB (as on your video) and the device to be powered to this trigger device. What do you think, would it work? If it would, the costs of building own mini-UPS for router/switch etc. are only powerbank and QC trigger circuit (besides some plugs and cables…). My dillemas: 1. if powerbank’s output current would be enough for devices which have 12V 2A DC adapters. According to specs powerbank’s output has up to 1,5A at 12V, however devices usually have lower power consumption then it is written in their specs - i.e. even when they have 2A DC adapters they need about 1A, as they show here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xqWtnIaZf6KBY4I 2. can I plug 9 or 12V AC to powerbank’s input without any intermediary circuit? Will powerbank, which supports QC recognize the voltage? Or do I need any additional circuit between original DC adapter of the device and powerbank’s QC input, i.e. DC2DC step back circuit? Could you help in resolving this puzzle please?
@devil2005iscool

seeing as the powerbank can output 5v @ 3A on its quick charge port. Couldnt you just just use a 12v boost converter to get it to 12v and allow the load to decide the current draw? or does the powerbank you have not allow the full 3A to be drawn unless it is triggered properly with the data from the QC3.0 bus?

@itsdatruff There is no 5V. Most banks carry all li-batteries in parallel with a voltage between 2.8V and 4.2V. All voltage above that needs to be boosted up to whatever voltage is provided. Typical efficiency these days are ~70%, meaning a 20 000 mAh bank will output equivalent of 14Ah after conversion.

And that is a lot more handy than what might first be thought. It will run practically any small SMPS, such as the one that powers my Asus EEE. Also cell phone chargers and many LED bulbs. Being DC rather than some kind of modified square wave AC means that any computer powered by it is very, very quiet (electrically). Just the ticket when you're recording audio out in the field.

Hi, I am currently building a 19v laptop charger by utilizing the QC 3.0 12v output. My laptop is rated at 65 watts and it has a 15 watt TDP CPU and a 33 watt GPU. I used a 12v to 19v 150 watts boost converter I ordered online. I tested the boost converter on my solar panel system by hooking it up to the MPPT charge controller which has an Amp monitor and Voltage monitor function. So far, it charges my laptop (turned on) while drawing about 12v at 3.1 amps at full CPU load. When both CPU and GPU are fully loaded, it draws about 4.4 amps at 12v. When turned off or at sleep, it draws about 1.1 amps. Recently, I've tried to hook up the boost converter to the QC 3.0 powerbank and triggering the 12v output. It only then charges my laptop when it is turned off or in sleep mode. My question is, how can I connect 2 QC 3.0 powerbanks to achieve higher amps at 12v? Can anyone give me some suggestions? (I can charge my laptop if I have a USB PD powerbank but those things are pretty expensive here. So I opted to choose QC 3.0 powerbanks because it is a lot cheaper while having higher capacity) *Btw, I am using the Romoss Sense 8+ powerbank with a capacity of 30000 mah. And I am planning to buy another one just to charge my laptop. Buying 2 of these is alot cheaper than buying 1 USB PD powerbank*
