I wonder what would happen if you rotate the protruding nubs around , and how the rotational speed would change the patterns... very interesting

Simulations with changing boundaries are quite time-consuming to make, because the boundaries have to be constantly reset. But here are some earlier videos with rotating boundaries: kzitem.info/news/bejne/o3yC3mmcf6Canpw kzitem.info/news/bejne/yYiQ0GWXi6uBfmk kzitem.info/news/bejne/q5-IyJ2fkaecnYI

Is this what the inside of a cavity magnetron would look like if you could see microwaves directly? Also hexagon is indeed the bestagon
@NilsBerglund

There is a similarity with cavity magnetrons, and this design was indeed inspired by some previous simulations on this channel of such cavities, see for instance kzitem.info/news/bejne/uZuw02SjhIiFjKw . A major difference is that for cavity magnetrons, waves are generated near the center instead of the peripheral cavities (in my understanding).

This looks so awesome! Could you try to animate a magnetron? This looks quite close to it!

See for instance kzitem.info/news/bejne/uZuw02SjhIiFjKw and kzitem.info/news/bejne/2416u3awp4uSemk The simulations are far from perfect, because they do not really simulate any electron-magnetic field interaction, but they may give an idea.

Hypothetically, would it be possible to find the right input and geometry that would create an equilibrium state where there is essentially a radial standing wave that be like a Gaussian or half wave sinusoid?
@NilsBerglund

This is an instance of a so-called inverse problem. Such problems are notoriously hard to solve, but a number of methods are known to find approximate solutions, often by minimizing some cost function. I don't know if such a method would work here.

@@corsaircaruso471 look at the pattern density there are areas with more energy than others, in between communication towers in built up areas can form hot spots, the early high-end vehicles with servo actuators had issues. I figure that some planes are flying through some intense sun energy lately and similarly having electronic issues.
