Your tutorials are awesome, I've been learning a lot. I just wanted to ask how you could add those loop cuts at the end without using paid Add-ons?
@ArtisansofVaul

Good question. So what you would need to do is create a lot of plains that are in the z axis (Id use an array from a single plain) and then use something like knife project to cut through the object. Its not the nicest method but it works.

I had a similar problem today and figured out a solution with very narrow lattices, so no cutting at all.

it took me a while to figure out why mine would not bend in the same manner, Applying the scale and such is everything with this modifier. it simply won't work without doing so.

Totally, it's SO important for a number of features in Blender but I'd say for this it's vital

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you HAD to move the origin of the mesh you are bending, can you not use an Empty (or single vertex) as the origin of the bend modifier so you can control the bend while "freeing up" the actual Origin of the mesh? You can even parent the Empty to the mesh so it moves with the mesh to preserve the topology.
@ArtisansofVaul

For sure. You're totally correct. Most of the time it's not an issue as you can set the origin to the geometry centre point. It's just something I wanted to mention as the most likely error for it not "working".

Wow, I have had so many issues with this modifier. It kept bending in opposite directions on each side, even after I reset scale and rotation. It did not work properly until I used an empty as reference point and rotated the empty 90 degrees. There are so many issues like this in Blender for me, with arrays and bend etc.
@ArtisansofVaul

Hmm.... Interesting issue to have. Normally things like this occur when there is either something not applied (though you have said that you applied the scale and rotation) or the origin is in a funny location or there is a face that has a normal not facing outwards (the classic flipped normal problem). I cant say it is one of those for sure but it sounds like it.
@Hurtone
2 жыл бұрын
@@ArtisansofVaul yeah, that is what I thought, but origin was correct and scale and rotation reset before applying the modifier. Just one of those things, but it worked out in the end with the rotated empty.
@Robert-ln1cx

I think I have the same thing occurring, does this modifier only like working in one orientation?
@Hurtone
2 жыл бұрын
@@Robert-ln1cx basically if you do any kind of scaling or rotating on the object, it tends to get messed up. Add an empty at the point you wish to curve around, and put the empty as the object to rotate round in the modifier. Then try to rotate the empty if it still does not work.

Thanks. I might do a video on making sci-fi armour in the future but I need to be careful about copyright. I mean a shield with a tear drop (it IS a tear-drop!) is very different to a whole marine for example.

I don't have the "Apply All" (and other buttons) that you have at the top of your modifier panel. Is this something that has to be enabled?

loving these video tutorials! new to blender and these are so amazing! when following through this tutorial: I can only get the bending to work if I set up my shape in the same orientation as you show (the thin bit of the object you are curving along the x), as soon as I change the orientation of an object it won't bend properly anymore (eg, make a shape that is x1.5 by y18 by z18). I was adding my edge loops to the front face of my shield (now the X-axis face), but rather than a curve I got a tangled mess. Only by adding edge loops to the "side" of the shield (the 18 by 1.5 face) on the y-axis would it make a proper bend, but not in the way I wanted. Am I missing something fundamental here? must all curves be on the y-axis or is there something simple I am overlooking?
@ArtisansofVaul

So there are a couple of things here. First I would say to check if you have applied the rotation of the object, that is always an issue. The second would be that if that doesn't work my go to solution is to instead of using it as it is to bring in an Empty and then use the bend around an object (this may not be the exact term used, sorry, Im not in front of my computer) and linking it to the Empty. You can then position the empty where you want th eobject to bend around

@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodla2091 There are a few out there. I'm planning on doing one on Boxcutter in the next couple of weeks. Hard Ops is a different beast as it is HUGE. I don't think I have seen one guide that goes through everything, I learnt things through a combination of individual tools being used in videos and using the documentation it has online. This video should be pretty good as it's from a KZitemr I think is fantastic: m.kzitem.info/news/bejne/r2yjzHqsmGmbjKQ
