Great tutorial / explanation. Moulinette (sp?) are found in every bladed martial art, in varying forms. From khopesh, to khukuri, to gladius, that wrist rotation in all its styles, is central to striking with a sword. It is almost as if kinesiology formed simultaneously across the globe, in reference to fighting styles, where basic motions dictated forms based on weapon selection. Much in the same way particular blade geometry formed independently across multiple continents, yet somehow arrived at similar shapes. And in this case, that little addition of the thumb ring serves to increase both control, and velocity on the swing at the cutting stroke. Very cool stuff...

that seems like an insulting term to use. perhaps under-appreciated or under-publicized would have a less offensive implication.

Thanks mate I have a couple of the exact same training Szabla's on order from Silkfencing with the thumb ring and having never handled a sword with a thumb ring I was wondering the exact same question :D Dead on thanks mate !! PS love the Channel! I find your breakdown of techniques brilliant. 👍👍
