Thanks to you and Tuck. I just harvested my first tomatoes ever and.... WOW. I never knew thats what tomatos ACTUALLY taste like. 100% difference from the grocery store. The grocery store is bland mush. But my tomatoes were AMAZING! Thank you so much for lighting the fire under me!

My experiment two years ago: pinched suckers off my Brandywine tomatoes in September; took them indoors and rooted them in water; then potted them up in a sunny window as the temps got cooler in October. They struggled to survive due to lack of sun through December and January (lost a few), but then they started to take off in February and March. They got extremely leggy, but after I set them in the garden in May they developed quickly into very nice plants. Had ripe Brandywines by July 10, about six weeks early.

How can you identify which part of the plant is the sucker please?
@Ripleyripper
2 жыл бұрын
@@bobbiduval7961 It's not critical--pretty much any piece of the plant will take root--but a sucker is a strong new branch that suddenly develops from the juncture of a leaf and the main stem of a developed plant
@nancypeplau9747
2 жыл бұрын
@@bobbiduval7961 you have the main stem, from that you have the “branches”.... look in the spot where the main stem and branches connect, the suckers grow at that spot, you should pinch them off to let the energy go into the main plant. You can root the suckers to make Whole new plants. Happy gardening!
@colliecoform4854

I wish I could do that. I don't have a sunny window and I have a cat who digs up house plants. Maybe I'll get grow lights. A tomato by July 10th is a game changer. My first tomat this year was a Chefs Choice Orange two weeks ago aside from the cherries which have been going for a while.

Grafting Sun Gold Yellows and Super Sweet 100's is absolutely inspiring to me, because I am getting ready to dedicate a corner of my small studio apartment to indoor container gardening and want to grow both types of Tomatoes. Saving space is everything in a studio apartment, and I already have spinach, Basil, Jalapenos, Purslane, Lettuce, Navy Beans, Green Onions, and Green Peppers growing. So space is getting limited fast.
