A huge issue with NBMEs is that they have notoriously horrible explanations. Coupled with the fact that so many people report having multiple repeats and very similar q's on the real deal from the NBME. I can see why some suggest this route, but it sounds like even with all that in mind it may not be worth it!

The point is that they’re not designed to be tools for memorizing questions, rather as assessments to identify standing and further narrow down one’s study focus. To spend time memorizing them, while it may get you a couple repeats, it isn’t worth it from a time vs. potential benefit perspective. Whereas taking the feedback and working on your weaknesses is a guaranteed way to get better. It comes down, at the end of the day, to the fact that people want to get impressive results while also taking shortcuts… and that isn’t a good way to approach the most important exams of one’s medical career.
