It's always fascinating to learn about the various national disciplines people shoot in other countries.

I had that "shooting time" discussion with a fellow shooter at an IDPA match during "socializing time." And we both had a laugh at the realization that the better you get, the less time you get to spend doing the thing you love doing. I enjoyed the comparison, and I'd enjoy seeing you compare local/club matches, as well as other shooting disciplines, like maybe Steel Challenge.

You should have talked about governing body. USPSA actually promotes their activity. NRA Bullseye has the NRA, which has a magazine called Shooting Sports USA, which is supposed to be funded by the revenue collected by approved & registered events. SSUSA basically ignores all the NRA shooting sports, and bends over backwards to promote activities like USPSA, PRS, IDPA and basically every other sport that has their own governing body. NRA Competitions is just trying to glom onto all the popular activities, which is a problem when they ignore their own sports. I've been a life member for over 30 years and I'm tired of the neglect.

What do you mean? When the Olympic shooting went viral, I did a simple search on competitive shooting and the International Shooting Sport Federation popped up everywhere. And then, after doing some careful searching, I later found the IPSC. The ISSF's youtube channel is filled with its competitions, and their website can locate the nearest authorized range for you.

@@ods1123 While the ISSF is the premier international shooting authority (for events such as World Cups and the Olympics), it doesn’t have much, if any, regulatory authority over shooting in the US. Over the last 20 years or so, The NRA and Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) have been the joint authorities over precision shooting in the US, often having separate National Championships. With every passing year, it seems that NRA is stepping further and further away, but luckily the CMP seems to be stepping up more and more. A trend I hope to see continue. However, as a Government/Military entity, it seems to me that funding and bureaucratic red tape can hinder the CMP’s ability to promote and grow the sport as much as it may like too, though hopefully that’ll improve over time. While the Precision Shooting sports are by no means dead in the US, the lack of well funded organizational leadership to grow and promote the sport has been one of its biggest obstacles.

@@ZACH127SLY Thanks for the explanation. I was just saying what I experienced. I just searched for 'competitive shooting' and the ISSF showed up and presented a lot of information. I was impressed. I hope this Olympics will motivate the CMP into supporting precision shooting more.

@bpm990d This is true, unfortunately. I've also wondered why SSUSA seems to have fewer articles about NRA events than others.

In addition to the precision/efficiency split there is also no theoretical "perfect" score in USPSA. In Bullseye, if you clean Rapid Fire for instance, you don't get any extra credit for doing it faster. Perfect is perfect and that's it. In USPSA you can always go faster, or get better hits, or whatever. In theory. For those that have never competed Skeet and Trap are an imperfect analogy - Skeet is always the same. Trap every target varies. Bullseye, the course of fire never changes. USPSA, only Classifier stages are pre-determined and every match is a unique set of challenges within certain stage-design guidelines. Also for those that don't compete - why not? Are you afraid of getting your little feelings hurt ;-> One last point - a 14 stage one-day format is most definitely not representative of a "typical" USPSA match. More typical is 4-6 hours. Still a lot of time for a couple minutes of actual shooting, but not all matches are a death march!

Have fired uspsa, idpa , bulleye , international and police pistol combat. Enjoy all . However prefer the ppc and bulleye. At my senior age status can't really move fast to compete in idpa and uspsa and don't care fore the lag time. Would like to try the Bianchi cup.

I have shot Bullseye for 3 plus decades and loved it! For the past 5ish years, due to the lack of Bullseye matches near me, I have shot USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge. I like USPSA and IDPA, but have been focusing on Steel Challenge. I feel that Steel Challenge is most similar to Bullseye, but faster. Unfortunately, Bullseye seems to be a dying sport. I have found that very few people, especially the younger generation, know anything about Bullseye shooting. Maybe your videos will help raise awareness of precision Bullseye shooting. Semper Fi

Hard for me to say. Looking at the CMP CT there are a ton of local matches listed most with 5-10 participants. The CMP warm up match sponsored by ORPA had 93 Competitors and this year's P100 match (akin to another sport's nationals) had just over 800 participants. I think my takeaway is that the national level they seem to be about the same across the board. But on a local level, from my perspective, there doesn't seem to be an organization more prolific than USPSA. PCSL is growing in my area; as are NV and low light matches. What would a PRS / QPC "Area" match pull in?

great stuff as always! I've tried IDPA at local range and found too physical for my old, fat bod with bad knees as well as kinda silly procedural rules to help simulate a real environment instead of open space that you can see all targets at once(must shoot close to far targets, when peeking around wall 'slice the pie' for engagement order) but I'm sure it's hard to create scenarios to keep it interesting. I'd be interested to watch that video about bullseye on a budget as I can't imagine participating with a $250 gun like it's possible when you only shoot targets at 20-50 feet.

I didn't get into pistol competition until I was 68 (shot flintlock rifle competitions about 30 years earlier), and USPSA starting at around 70. I"m 74 now, fairly accurate, but I compensate by being slow (usually in the upper part of the lower third in local matches). I have a great time, shooting either Limited Optic (I greatly prefer SA pistols) or PCC. I'm not the oldest one competing at the local weekly match, but I'm working on it.

@@BullseyePistol hi bullseye pistol. I have found none. I want to work on what I’ve been training to gauge my progress and go home. Not make it a social event. @@jeffjones7427 Thank you. I think 10m Air Pistol offers the best bang for your buck time wise. At US competitions you are scheduled on a relay and walk into the shooting hall 15 minute before your slot and boom… 15 minutes of sighters and then the 75 minute 60 shot match. No socializing or talking during competition. Just wall to wall shooting. She. You’re done you put your stuff in your car and head home.
